I started flying some familiarization flights in 4.33.4 and my HUD is always too dim and too washed out. I cranked up the SYM knob and cycled through HUD colors with ALT-H but could never get back to the bright Green HUD coloration from 4.32 (and earlier 4.33 iterations).
Must be missing SOMETHING simple but I have checked all graphic options to no avail. The TGP and WPN page videos are similarly washed out and hard to see.
I fired up 4.32 and 4.33 (pre U1) and things look the way I remember..

Thanks guys!! I will check out the cockpit mods. Also agree w/re to your picture of "the real thing". I cannot get that particular GREEN color at all, and it has been a staple of every flight sim ever made!!!

That's strange you cannot return to default, which is the green of course.
My eyes have gotten worse as I get older, and I struggle to see things clearly sometimes, especially under certain weather conditions. A couple of little things I do to help me get through the missions.
When in white out conditions, like above a solid cloud deck or in fog and mist I like the light blue HUD color. It seems like it would be even harder to see, but for me it stands out.
I also use the HMCS all the time. A quick turn of the head so that the HMCS pops up gives me easier to read heading, speed, altitude etc.
And I use zoom alot. I have it mapped to shifted TMS-up. Not ideal but it helps. Like I can struggle to see the info at the lower right of the HUD. Range to target or waypoint. Missile countdown, that stuff. Same with setting up weapons on the MFD. I often need to zoom is to see it clearly. I need to see the eye doc
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
Sorry, let me clarify,, I can get to the GREEN color, but nowhere near the PARTICULAR Green in the "real thing" screenshot, but only a very dim faded green...
I am noticing that (probably like the real thing) my head position matters. Maybe I have to play with FOV options. i haven't been using TRACK-IR lately, but maybe THAT would help too especially with Z-axis. My eyes are not what they once were either (and they were never THAT GOOD).
I've been meaning to brush up on the commands to zoom in on the HUD and MFD's. Used to be able to do it generically with Mouse Wheel but that doesn't seem to work now, though it is checked in options..

Yes, it is there and I have it checked but there is no moving bar in the Gray AXIS indicator and the Mouse Wheel doesn't work in cockpit. I recall that happened before in 4.32 but I don't remember how I fixed it. I think it magically started working after I ran BMS with TRACK-IR

This is how I see the HUD symbology at the default hue/brightness:
The Balkan Theatre, default F-16C blk52 pit. Perfectly readable, even against a pretty bright background (it looks sharper full-sized in the sim). Under extreme conditions I sometimes change the colour to light cyan or even pure white (not too realistic, right? )
Hmmmm... not quite sure I saw a difference so I made a side-by-side comparison.... the one on the LEFT is 4.33.3 and the RIGHT is 4.33.4 and as far as I can tell, it's brighter in 4.33.4 but only a little bit....
For me it is the OPPOSITE... 4.33.4 is noticeably less bright...I didn't really fly much with 4.33.3 so I can't do that direct comparison. The comparison I made was to 4.33 before the U1 update and to the earlier 4.32 and the result was similar to what you showed, only if it was 4.33.4 on the LEFT... On my system now, against a light background (like if you pitched up about 10 degrees it is almost unreadable...

Hmmm.... odd... maybe your monitor needs calibration? I'm about to transfer my BMS install to a new drive and I'll do a few screenshots along the way.
Just got home and looked at my setup. I have keyboard selected on View Zoom and my mouse wheel controls zoom, so try that and see what happens. Also, are you able to turn knobs in the cockpit with the mouse wheel? If not, there is a setting in the config. file for that. Let me know!

Thanks!!! That did it!!! Who would have thought that setting to keyboard would make the mouse wheel work!!
And.. yes I can now turn the knobs with the Mouse Wheel as well. Not sure I ever tried that before, always used the buttons.

To me the rotating knobs are better than the zoom. Especially when using the CRS knob on the HSI. HSI had increments of 5 in 4.32, but in 4.33 you have all 360 radials.
What mods are you using? I think Balkans has Jan Has pits. That HUD projector glass looks awesome in that first shot. Not sure but the KTO pit might be stock.
