I'm trying to work out a good CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle profile for my newly installed BoS, and I'm trying to figure our where to map all the different gun, cannon, rocket, and bomb fire/pickle buttons. This hasn't been an issue in my profiles for more modern sims, as there's usually one trigger for the guns, and a single pickle button with the choice to fire rockets or drop bombs being selected via some other key/switch/button. However, as with previous IL2 titles, I need a separate button (or shifted button) for guns, cannons, rockets, and bombs.

I've worked out a couple of options for doing this with easy to reach buttons on the stick with and without using a shifted state. However, I'm not totally happy with any of them.

I was curious, in real life, for aircraft like the IL-2, Ju-87, Bf-109, P-47, F4U (etc...) how were different weapons selected and fired? Did they have a separate trigger/button for guns and cannons (when both were equipped), or were they always fired at the same time? And then for bombs and rockets, was there a pickle button or something on the stick, or was there a release toggle on a panel somewhere? Did they have separate releases for bombs or rockets (seems unlikely), or was there a selector for which station to fire/release and one "weapon drop" button somewhere...?

Any insights are appreciated. Seems like a fun discussion topic anyway!

For the Sturmovik, you can find quite a few details, such as triggers placement on the stick and rockets and bombs selectors, here> http://www.allworldwars.com/IL-2-Illustrated-Flight-Manual.html

1 and 2 are gun and cannon triggers, top buttons are bombs and rockets release

Individual trigger and buttons for fire MG, guns*, drop bombs, fire rockets.

*Some Fw 190, e.g. for intercept American bombers has MG and wing cannons in trigger and guns on pod's in A-Knopf for KG12/13 grip (the top button).

E.g KG-13B buttons assignment of Me 262:

In Bo'x Il-2 and Ju-87 has animated selector for set bombs and rockets salvos.

E.g. The ESBR-3P of IL-2 (from Nibion link)

Curiosity - In the book Mosquito wooden wonder:

Is related the case of Mosquito bomber that flying at low level near Danish coast vanish in an explosion.
The probable cause was the new button for drop bombs, installed previous the mission... at side of PTT button.

BTW - In those popular "F-16'ish" grips (CH's, Cougar, Warthog) I will set that red top button for fire rockets and under a modifier* drop bombs.

* Although not possible set a joystick button (e.g. the obvious "pinky" button) as modifier (like is possible in CloD/DCSW....) for another button in Bo'X controls GUI - due that dumb "less key is better" rule, you can do this manually editing the file "current.actions.

How edit the file, I explain there: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/28277-question-joystick-mapping/#entry536191

Thanks for the feedback guys.

On my CH Fighter Stick, I settled on the trigger for weapon group 1 and the pinky switch for weapon group 2. This allow me to fire guns and/or cannons separately if needed and without adjusting the position of my fingers at all. I then put bomb drop on the red "pickle" button, and rockets on the NWS button around the top right of the stick. The rocket button is very easy to access by just moving my trigger finger up onto the side of the stick.

So far it's working well for me.
