I've been thinking about which developers have recently made games that really left an impression on me and then I got curious and looked up their country of origin. It's interesting to see which countries have been producing some great talent for game development.
Here are a few from my list (please feel free to add to it).
Creative Assembly - UK Total War series as well as Alien Isolation.
Rebellion - UK Sniper Elite series and also Alien vs. Predator.
Codemasters - UK Formula 1 series
Arkane - France Dishonored series and Prey.
Eagle Dynamics - Russia DCS World
DICE - Sweden Battlefield series and Star Wars Battlefield series.
Bohemia Interactive - Czech Rep. Armed Assault series
ID Software - US Doom and Wolfenstein series
Valve Software - US Half Life series, Left 4 Dead Series, Portal series, Team Fortress series
Monolith - US No One Lives Forever, Tron, Alien vs. Predator 2, LOTR Middle Earth series.
Gearbox Software - US Borderlands series.
Crytek - Germany Far Cry (original) and Crysis series.
Bioware - Canada Mass Effect series, Knights of the Old Republic.

And don't forget the various mutations of 1C in Russia for RoF and the IL-2 series.
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."

Eastern Europeans make some really great games and so do the Russians and Ukrainians. Like was mentioned CDProjekt Red with the Witcher Series Remedy, out of Sweden I think, Edit: Actually Finland apparently for Max Payne 1&2, Alan Wake, and though I have not played it yet but I'm sure its good, Quantum Break. The old Illusion Softworks/2kCzech team out of the Czech Republic who made Mafia 1&2, Hidden and Dangerous 1&2, Vietcong Warhorse Studios in Czech Republic. I'm hoping good things from them with Kingdom Come Deliverance because the main director and some of the other team members worked on some of the above Illusion Softworks titles like Mafia and Hidden and Dangerous and on the original Operation Flashpoint. Konami - Japan. Man where do you start here. I suppose they can go both ways in development and publishing. Capcom - Japan. Same here. So many. Team Ico which I guess belongs to Sony Interactive Entertainment(not sure how it all boils down when it comes to these mega corporations) - Japan. Playstation 2&3 Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. IO Interactive out of Denmark for the Hitman series. Pandemic Studios (I wish they would come back) USA and Australia - Full Spectrum Warrior, Destroy All Humans series, Mercenaries series, The Saboteur. Raven Software USA - Soldier of Fortune 1&2, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, Wolfenstein 2009, Singularity. Naughty Dog USA - Uncharted 1! Uncharted 2!! Uncharted 3!!! The Last of Us!!!! Uncharted 4!!!! The Last of Us Part 2 coming soon........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure how much sense it makes to tie large game developers to the nation where, at best, they pay their taxes. Ubisoft for example has studios in many nations, including Canada, Sweden, Germany, France, per their corporate investor news of the last two years.
Heck, even a really tiny developer like eSim Games with about a dozen creatives has team members from three countries, seven nations, and three corporate entities of which one is in the US and two are in Germany. What's the nationality of eSim Games? I couldn't tell.

PM, I'm shocked that you didn't include Coffee Stain Studios, Sweden... makers of "the satirical and humorous take on the game industry called... Goat Simulator " !!! As a fan of tower defense I like their Sanctum series.

ID Software - US Doom and Wolfenstein series
The last three Wolfensteins are based on id's engine, but were actually developed by Machine Games in Sweden.

Techland - Poland. Dying Light, Dead Island.
My uncle is a programmer there and I've been to their studio a few times over the years.
