Here in Newfoundland its Armistice Day , Remembrance Day in Canada:

Last year, my friend Doug a veteran of the Royal Navy WW2; sang "Let There Be Peace on Earth" our church service , as he had done for as many years as I can remember. Now he has gone to his reward. Channel mine sweepers, Atlantic covoys, the Norway campaign, Russian convoys, the Med and Sicily invasion, and the Pacific.

"Well done, good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

Let There Be Peace on Earth

The video notes his rank as Major....this was obviously not his naval service rank, but was his rank in the cadet training organisation that he served for over 65 years after his military service.

Salute to all Veterans out there. We had a full honor guard and a 9 year old who played the National anthem on a violin. There were 5 of us sitting at a table - each of us representing one branch of the military. My co-worker next to me was an Air Force Vet who was shot down over Vietnam while on a combat support mission. It was a very nice tribute to all veterans and followed up with some good home made chow and fruit punch.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill

Thank you to all of those who keep us free.

I hope all the veterans had a a good day. My respects to all of you.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.
