Lately I've been wanting to play through Last Light again, and in the current Steam sale it's marked down.

For those who have played both the original and the redux versions would you say it's worth it to get the new one if you already have the old one? If so what changes make you feel that way?

With the new game on the horizon I wanted to give LL another go. I really enjoyed it, great game that's maybe a bit underrated?

I also have 2033, but I liked Last Light better. But same questions about 2033 as well. Thanks.

Depends....i got the redux but i prefered to play the original for one reason, atmosphere, the new one isnt as dark and claustrophobic in my opinion because of the new lighting system but it is pretty and will increase replayability. the second one i honestly dont recomend as graphic the improvments are in my eyes small, but it says there is gameplay changes as well, more dificulty so who knows.....since i havent even played the sequel i prefered to not get it.

If you see it on sale for cheap and want to re-visit the series, then I'd say go for it; just don't expect any drastic improvements or differences from the original. And for $5 right now, you can't really go wrong.

I liked both games about the same, one didn't really stand out more than the other. I loved the immersion and the STALKER vibe; but the linear path and story just felt average to me once it was over, and nothing stood out by the end. The only reason I bought the Redux ver. was because I had forgotten most of the story, and had a new(er) system that could play it more than 30fps.

I'm definitely looking forward to Exodus, I just hope they don't use the controlled progression system that plagues a lot of "open world" games (i.e. Farcry 3+)

Thanks. I just bought the bundle. $7.48 for both games. Chump change really.

I loved Last Light, one of the best FPS I've played. Aside from the boss battles which I hated, I loved everything else. For so little money might as well replay them with the most up to date versions.

I'm also looking forward to Exodus. It has the potential to be amazing, let's just hope it is. I'm a big fan of the Stalker vibe as you put it. All Stalker games, plus I really got in to the Misery mod at one point, though it's been a few years now.

I waited for ages (non-Steam user that I am) to see them come up on GOG, so I only ever played the Redux versions.

What I think is cool is that Redux unifies both games, same interface, same enemies, same control mechanics, same visuals. By each own they are a bit short, but as a bundle this felt more like a two-act singular game than two separate titles.

I really hope Exodus is half as good as it sounds. The dark, visually exceptional Metro world meeting an open area Stalker-style game experience sounds like heaven.

I decided to fire up 2033 first. Clearly a nice improvement in graphical quality over the original, which was released in 2010 I believe. And I actually never finished that one. I had chosen Ranger mode, 'cause that's the way I like to play games like this. But I often ran out of air filters and eventually stopped playing without finishing it. I did complete Last Light though.

Normally, I tend not to like shooters with such a linear path. But the late stages of Last Light, when you're chasing the little Dark One, blew me away. It was like being in a movie, and I thought it was expertly done. You're just along for the ride half the time. But I thought it was fantastic.

I found the Metro games to be a pretty tough challenge due to the fact that ammo and air filters were very scarce when compared to your typical first person shooters. I just played the games on "normal" difficulty. I didn't want the headache of imposing any additional artificial difficulties.

If you think air filters are scarce in normal you should see it in Ranger mode. smile

I'm playing normal this time and it seems like I always have 20+ minutes in filters.

Having a great time playing this game again. I hated the trolley sections, where you're manning the turret. I could only seem to control rotation with A & D keys, not the mouse, so it was harder than it needed to be.

I also climbed up to the radio transmitter only to realize I didn't grab the cassette tape, if you remember that. Doh!

Has anyone here ever read the books the Metro games are based on?

No, but I saw them listed on Audible, so I went to check out on Amazon for the Kindle. They had the 2nd and 3rd books, but said the first, 2033, wasn't available! Huh?
I'd like to go through them, but it's cheaper to buy a book for the kindle and then the audio along with it than just the audio version on Audible alone. Maybe it will get straightened out.

Neither have I, nor have I read the Witcher books. I did read Roadside Picnic, which was the inspiration for the Stalker games though

Yes, Roadside Picnic was what the 1979 film was based on. It's different from Stalker, but you can see the inspiration. The term stalker, anomalies, throwing bolts to find the anomalies, that sort of thing. The Spring artifact, if you know what I'm referring to, is in the movie, but I don't think it had that name?

It's been 10+ years since then, so my memory of it is sort of fuzzy.

Interesting. So the Stalker game is basically combining the elements of "Roadside Picnic" with the Chernobyl reactor meltdown event.

Yes, that's a good way to put it. In the book, the zones were caused by aliens called Visitors. The radiation mutates, and the main character's daughter is slowly overcome and mutates. Remember the Wishgranter from S.O.C? It's in there, but was called the Orb or something similar.

It's possible I am amalgamating the book and the movie, and perhaps I no longer remember accurately. But that's how I remember it now smile

Hey Panzer, I thought this thread might interest you

http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/3869880

The PDF link works well if you don't have an e-reader to put it on.

Free stuff too

That's too cryptic. What these are are sort of fan-fic novels clearly inspired by and even part of the Stalker universe. I really enjoyed the reads, and at the price of free, you can't go wrong.

Just curious if anyone ended up reading those Stalker novels?

So I finished Last Light Redux and as far as the Library in 2033 (librarians!). LL only took 12 hours? Seems I played a lot longer first time around. Question. In the achievements there are quite a few for levels I did not complete. The Heavy Squad, Anna level etc. It looks like these are DLC. Does the redux version include these? What are these exactly?

Still feeling my post-apocalyptic groove I reinstalled Call of Pripyat and a few mods (Arsenal Overhaul, Atmosfear and the bundled nature one). Forgot how great this game was. Few games make me feel more attached to my weapon than this game (and Clear Sky too I reckon).

I think I will have to go back to Misery though, because I like the survivalist changes in Misery and as great as CoP is, it's not as bleak and unforgiving as I seem to want it to be.

Last Light Redux should include all the DLC levels, some of which are quite good. And yes, LL is a bit short, just as 2033 is a bit short by itself.

I've read the Stalker and Metro novels that are around, but can't get back into the Stalker games... they are just getting too dated. Currently doing a LL Redux replay myself... wish we already had Exodus.

Exodus yeah, quite a few of us looking forward to that one.

The novels I was referring to are the ones I inked to a few posts back. Fan fiction sort of stuff. Just curious is all. I like them enough to read them through to their ends.

How do I access these DLC levels. In episodes or chapters or whichever it is?
