6 months ago we lost our co-worker to cancer - she was only 37.
yesterday we lost another co-worker who drove herself to the ER but passed out in her car after she pulled up next to the ER entrance - she died of a heart attack and was 58 (she had been obese for many years).
last year we lost another co-worker who smoked at least several packs a day if not more and smoked himself to death - he was in his late 50's
The reason for this post is to remind you to eat healthy, to not smoke and to walk fast for at least a mile a day for at least 5 days of your week if possible - how long you want to live depends a lot on how well you take care of yourself
Tell your family members you love them more than just a few times a year and give thanks for each day - i wish each of you a blessed day

Wow Hag, that's so terrible. Last year my boss dropped dead in her house, her daughter found her in the kitchen. She might had been in her mid 50's, two kids in their 20's. She smoked a lot, was terrible news to hear.

Too late for me, just yesterday I figured out I have Aortic Stenosis. Haven't seen a Doc yet but that is what my analysis comes up with. I can't do anything strenuous without getting tuckered out. don't even try self diagnosing something like that if you don't know anything about ecg's or how to listen to heart sounds through a stethoscope. your diagnosis will be wrong 99.999% of the time. there are dozens if not hundreds of possible diagnoses which could be causing your issue, aortic stenosis is just one of them. go get an ECG done and throw your self diagnosis out the window and forget about it forever. an ECG and stethoscope check will tell what's going on for real.

Friend of mine, from a few years back.... Just emailed in to work sick. Really hate to do it, but my breathing is really bad, I suspect chest infection. Going to doctor later. Twitter Oct 11 Doctor says my oxygen count is down and my temperature up and I have to take antibiotics and stay off work. Bah. I don't want to be ill! Twitter Oct 12 Oh #%&*$# hell. Just needed two minutes to get my breath back after walking up the #%&*$# stairs. This is really bloody annoying. Twitter Oct 12 Died Oct 13, aged 37. My cousin, died in hospital of a chest infection last week. Early 40s, not obese nor other health problems. Leaves widow and two kids. As Longbow says, get to a doctor. You can't always tough it out.

Some very sad stories in here. I did not realize that someone could die from a chest infection like that. It just seems to me to be such an unlikely way to die.

Surprised us all PM, for the same reasons - road accident, maybe cancer, you can process more easily.
My college friend from a few years back was overweight, drank a lot, probably did light drugs too. Very sedentary as a gaming journalist. I think it was an embolism or heart attack that ultimately did him in. But still so young.
As for my cousin, I can only guess he had an unknown underlying condition, or he left it too long to take to the doctor and it was antibiotic-resistant. Can't say I knew him well as we were always geographically distant - I can only recall meeting him twice - once as a kid, and at our grandmother's funeral, but I'll be there to support his family and pay my respects.
Longbow, thanks for the thoughts, appreciated.

Some very sad stories in here. I did not realize that someone could die from a chest infection like that. It just seems to me to be such an unlikely way to die. I saw a program lately on PBS on the rise of drug resistant infections. There is a theory that the over prescribing of anti-biotics is to blame. If you go to a doctor with a cold, the standard treatment seems to be Amoxicillin and Guiafen. Sad to hear stories like these.

So many, so young. There's certainly a lesson to take from this. I try to treat going to the gym for my health they way I treat going to work for money. If you're not careful, you can run out real fast!

Last year I lost my coworker and friend of 20 years. He had some medical issues but fully expected to recover. Then Labor Day weekend, he ended up in the hospital and he was gone, just like that.
Less than a month later, my other coworker of 13 years who was also friends with the previously mentioned coworker lost her brother suddenly and he was only 49.
It was a pretty bad one two punch.
