Hi all.
I usually fly in 737's but I recently went to Europe and flew aboard a 767.
Both going and coming from Europe, when we were about 1000-2000 feet in the air (I am guessing) after take-off, the pilot reduced throttle and reduced the rate and angle of climb. Then after a few seconds, increased the throttle and increased the ascent again.
My prior experience on many flights on the 737's is just a continuous ascent with the same throttle until we reached cruising altitude.
Does anyone have any likely explanation as to why the pilot did what he did each time? (Note that it might have been the same pilot both times - the air service crew on the plane was the same from what I could tell).
Just dealing the air traffic? Something in the performance of the 767? Something else?
Also note that the flight to Europe left the U.S. from the same airport I have flown from many times.
Thanks!
