DCS Kickstarter
Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable."
Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."

I did some reading - then it is just a cockpit tweak, the Mustang module deserves a new model, something like the Spitfire.

I am moving soon to the Milviz Corsair & Beaver (I hope) and it would be nice to have a new Mustang by the time I come back, maybe by then the P-47(?) will have been released as well.

Well, it seems like it's a proper fire sale now!! Normandy, WWII Assets Pack, even the Viggen is now on sale!

In the previous newsletter my F-5E skin was featured at the top, which was nice to see. smile

Though I am wondering when the Su-33 will make it out of beta. I know the PFM was released in the beta branch but I don't want a 3rd install so I am awaiting it to come to the Alpha.

Otherwise I am waiting for the Harrier. I hope the manual is better this go around than the M2000C. The cockpit quality and whatnot looks to be a bit better overall, so I hope RAZBAM have learned how to work within the ED engine.

Both are well worth the sale price, and if you have to choose between them it depends on what you like.

If you like deep, all weather strike, go with the Viggen. If you like air to air, dogfighting, and some strike capability go with the Mirage. Both use navigation systems that drift and you need to do position updates to tighten your nav solution for assisted deliveries. Both have nice autopilots, both are delta wing, and both are fun to fly.

Both manuals are also incomplete, and both are being worked on. Truthfully, the Viggen has more rough edges than the Mirage, but it also brings more of what we didn't have in DCS so this is to be expected. My personal opinion is, warts and all, the Viggen is the best module for DCS. I'm a strike guy, though, so my opinion is biased. biggrin

Thanks alot HomeFries!

That´s the kind of opinion I was looking for, honest and realistic! From the start Iam more inclined towards the Viggen, specialy because of the addintions it brings to DCS as you state. Then there´s the ability to lase (JTAC) of the M2000C, but I can live without it. The only thing that bothers me as usual with DCS is the "era", we have a mixed bag of airframes to add to our scenarios and sometimes it´s hard to "role-play" the scenario because we are missing a element somewhere in the set-up.

Well, that´s life in DCSW dizzy

Again thanks HF!

Oh, almost forgot!!! Do they have a english cockpit layout available? This has a AFM right?

Viggen has an EFM (the 3rd party AFM), and ASM (adv systems modelling). Theyre working on the English cockpit, but there is a mod already out there (Devrim's I think). However, I found it very easy to learn since most of it is similar to German, which also has similarities to English. I thought it was easier than the French cockpit of the Mirage, anyway. With the guys I fly with, I ended up keeping the Swedish cockpit so I could call out buttons and they would be seeing the same thing.

I agree with the mixed bag sandbox. Normally you can make that work, but the thing is that the strike role is hugely different from CAS. In fact, the only thing the missions have in common is the dropping of A/G ordinance. Most missions tend to just add the Viggen to a mission with A-10s and Ka-50s, et al, and the Viggen is capable, but ill-suited for CAS. In order to have the Viggen fly a good mission, it can't be doing the same thing as CAS birds. Check out PD Marsh's "Dock Strike" for a mission that properly employs the Viggen for low level ingress and anti-ship tasking.

Thanks HomeFries!

I apreciate your detailed reply! I still have till the 26th to decide so will see. It is tempting but for now Iam not in any VFS so on my own is just that. Just trying to justify if Iam willing to spend time on it by my self.

Thanks HF,

May you have safe and fun flights!

Its not as easy to learn on your own because a lot of it is abstract. It helps if you have someone already familiar with the aircraft (or navigation/weapons delivery principles) who can explain things to you. I like to say that the Saab avionics "are counter-intuitive until they make perfect sense." When you see the systems you'll understand because Saab took liberties with what are considered to be standards of western avionics. If you think of the Viggen HUD as the VDI display in the A-6, the HUD makes a lot more sense.

Chuck's guide for the Viggen is excellent, but even its detail in the more complex bombing modes (like DYK) cant impress upon you the moving parts on the HUD as well as the rate at which they change. It just takes practice.

Also, xxJohnxx has a fantastic tutorial series, and the videos should help you decide if this is something you want to tackle.

Hi HomeFries,

Sorry for the delay, been watching the videos you suggested (xxJohnxx), must say great stuff they are, very good job by John! After watching some of the videos, I must say I have the same sensation that I had when I first saw and got into the K-50, in other words, a unique and learning platform! I really like what I have been seeing so far, and it has inspired me to get into learning all the goodness the Viggen and LN have to offer. Just with how it navigates I would be happy with! To be honest it´s the type of airframe/systems that I enjoy to learn and fly, so yes, just bought it but for now Iam just gathering all the info I can via videos and letting it sink in! Mainly because my throttle died and wont get a new one till next month. New throttle and a fresh start with the Viggen! It´s like looking at your new car inside your garage but can´t drive it because you don´t have insurance yet!

"SAAB Move Your Mind" biggrin

Again, thanks alot for your help HomeFries, I will enjoy it, and who know´s, you might see me airborne on your wing!

@Trindade
Thank you too! Was confused with the date´s. All good it´s already in the hanger now!

Happy and safe flights!

Try to do a few Rb 05 launches each time you fly the bird, takes alot to master (if ever) but it has a quite powerful warhead, downs a 3-chimney factory in one hit.

Fits in perfectly.....with the other completely random airframes. I'm still awaiting DCS Blimp to fill the gaping hole that no-one else wants either.

I bet they're now hard at work on the Yak campaigns.....2.5 can wait.

Nothing random about it ... it was a private contract that was then moved into public release.

that is it - they are simply taking advantage of work already do, no harm in doing that.

I would like to see some news about the P-47.

Dual-purpose trainer and aerobatic ride. Good news all round.

Looking forward to the virtual Yak display teams!
