Cue up the choir... power has been restored to my house.

While I am relieved to be getting back closer to normalcy at home, I remain mindful that there are a LOT of folks who are not so fortunate. And we still have plenty of 'hurricane season' left to go...

My family and I are doing okay. Here in West Melbourne we were kind of on the trashy side. We lost power Sunday evening and thankfully it just came on yesterday afternoon. We've got the usual debris mess and some roof damage. We've got a small Tupelo tree down in the back along with most of our bamboo. We just had a new fence put in but thankfully the most that happened to that is that its all leaning. The most problematic part though is that it dumped a ton of rain in a short period of time which is usually troublesome for use as we have low spots. The water came up to the front door so for awhile during the night we were just a little island. Unfortunately because of that, my folk's bedroom, bathroom, closet, pantry, washroom and A/C closet not only flooded, but we had so much rain and saturation that it cause the sewage to back up and into all of those rooms. So that whole side of the house was under about 4+ inches of water and sewage during the night and morning. Thankfully the water drained much faster than it normally does. It usually takes a few days to for that water to recede but thank the Lord it started draining the next morning. There were still areas underwater outside but lots of it had drained and thankfully by Monday afternoon we had some wind but lots of clear skies and sunshine for the next three days or so. We started as soon as we could to clean up and have been doing so these past several days. Yesterday we spent the whole day renting and using a dehumidifier, steam cleaner and floor cleaner to go at those affected rooms. We still have yet to run a fogger to attack any potential mildew. We are all pretty tuckered out. My Aunt who lives several miles away was one of those oddball neighborhoods who had power restored almost immediately so we went over there to sleep. This is the first day to take a break and be back in our home so we are so thankful to have our A/C back and our own spaces more or less cleaned up to be able to crash now and recuperate. I pray those without power still will get it soon! Four days without it is enough and I know there are those who will end up going weeks without it or longer. nope My sister's in-laws have family in Puerto Rico who are not going on two weeks without power. We used to live without central A/C when I was a kid with only one or two rooms having a window unit and most of the time we just left the front door and windows open and we were happy but I just can't handle it anymore like we used to.

We have other neighbors who flooded real bad too so I feel for them. Two of them had only recently purchased their homes and moved in. I'm glad to here others here seem to be doing okay as well. I have a cousin who lives in or around Naples so I'm curious to hear more from them. They got it pretty bad from what little I've heard and its displaced them for the time being.

Good and bad news from you Coot. It's a mess to cleanup after that. And with the septic issue a single cleaning isn't going to be enough. It will require a good sanitizing at least. I would tear up any carpeting if there is any. Yep, I would go into super sanitizing mode.

I almost feel guilty with how easily I got off on this. No damage. No fallen trees. Just a little yard debris to get up and a good patio cleaning. Had to spend some time with the pool. Lots of little debris and grit got in through the screens. Pine needles were the worst. But everything is in order now.

I'm glad to see it wasn't all bad news for you Coot... but I sure don't envy you the cleanup that needs to be done. Regarding the AC... we are victims of progress and our success. Doing without AC now is much harder than it was in our younger days.

Thanks guys. It definitely could be worse so I'm thankful that for many of us it hasn't been. Like you said those rooms will probably be an ongoing project to keep on top of it and make sure its safe and clean and continues to be so. I'll definitely listen to some Marty tunes while continuing to clean up. I'm glad to hear that it appears all of our FL SimHQers got through it all okay.

ahhh, thanks for the concern and messages. All is good here, born and raised in Florida hurricanes don't scare me, love them, natures way of blowing out all the crap. lol

We lost power for 2 weeks, was miserable. But we stayed drunk most of the time, retired now. lol Didn't think I got much damage minus trees and a few shingles, till last week when it rain hard while we were eating dinner and it rained down on us, lol... roof damage in the garage and above kitchen, I went up and tarpped it, waiting now for insurance.

I went out when it was about 50 to 60 MPH winds, took this photo of me holding the flag. Wearing a MC helmet for protection, lol... didn't chance it at 100 mph.

then went out during the eye... also some before and after of the house, just trees stripped, mailbox knock over, the mobile home next to our community got ripped to pieces, all the debris is from them, most of our houses held strong. Our powerless shack in last pic, lived there for 2 weeks without electricity or air.

put video and more pics up on my facebook page. including a time-lapse of the storm till it was blocked.

Thx again for the concern, starting my Mc IMSA tour next year, Jan-Oct 2018. wink

Nice mustache and beard !

Glad you have checked in and are mostly OK. Some damage, the roof and resulting water damage are the worst it seems.

Enjoying retirement ?
