Many thanks for the new update. However, I'm encountering some issues with sounds.


I have my engine sound level down at 20. The first thing I noticed was that the engine sounds of the other planes in my flight are much louder now. My plane's engine sound remains the same as it was before. There are workshop sound settings for engine, effects, and cockpit. Which one controls the level of engine sounds for other planes?

I also hear intermittent very loud distorted crackling sounds (big guns pounding the front?).

Thanks. Maybe adjust the "engine" setting in workshop. that sets the level for your own engine.

Not sure on the other thing, I don't have crackling noise, check your sound card is configured OK. Check if there are updated drivers.

There are proper 3D effects in there now etc, maybe your card needs an update or configuring.

We'll put an alternative set of sounds up that you can try.

That crackling sound you hear may very well be due to a loose or dirty connection where your plug goes into the sound card or the connections at the speaker. I would suggest cleaning them off and then reconnecting to see if that goes away. It is often that simple.

There's an alternative sound settings file on the downloads section now. Check that out please.

It's not a fix for any oddities you may have, but it will change the loudness of AI or gun sounds.

I installed the latest driver for my sound card. The only difference was that the distorted crackling sound turned into clear aircraft gun sounds, but still quite loud.

I got the alternative download file and used the sounds file from the "reduced AI and gun level" folder. AI engine sounds were reduced back down to where they used to be. However, it had no effect on AI gun sounds. AI guns from over two miles away are still much louder than my own guns.

For those of you who may be interested, I have created a JSGME mod of this that will allow you to swap in and out either of the three versions of the sound file. The mod should be up on Sandbagger's mods page soon.

Good so the cracking was your sound card as I thought. Maybe turn "effects" slider down in sound settings.

If you have 5.1 sound make sure it's configured properly.

When you say AI guns what do you mean other AI pilots or the guns at the front?

OBD not only continues to update WOFF UE long after most other Devs would have abandoned the product, they are also willing to look at and correct errors in the patches that they produce. Truly a 5 star Dev team. Thank you.

regarding the JSGME mod I generated for the sounds, I have applied the naming change you suggested, however, I wonder if we should leave it active and update it later if you have more changes to come.
I'm looking for your suggestion before I contact Sandbagger and suggest he delete the mod.

I imagine, the only way you could hear small arms fire from pilots position would be gliding low above the trenches, with engine shut down... However, in the last flight (after applying 4.16 patch) when circling over the lines, even big artillery impacts watched closely from 1k or less were completely silent, while the engine sounds and guns from AI appeared to be more stereophonic and full to an, in my humble opinion, unrealistic degree, even with the toned down alternative setting . Regarding the said rifle shot sounds ,they did suddenly 'pop up' 10 k behind the lines ,when approaching the landing field. I noticed, they hadn't any 'crescendo' ,so to say, the impression was like hallucinating a Wildwest shootout while flying a plane. Kind of surreal. Please bring back 4.15 soundscape, i didn't miss anything.

I meant other AI pilots' guns.


Update 4.17 appears to have solved the issues that I had with 4.16 - thanks very much.


However, just out of curiosity...

The workshop "effects" sound setting doesn't have any impact on the level of AI pilots' gun sounds, does it? The only way to adjust the level of AI pilots' guns is with the overall volume setting on my sound card or speaker system, correct?

Thanks for doing this Robert. However, I won't be using it since patch 4.17 resolved the sound issues.
