Howdy gents!

As many of you may or may not remember, a little gem of a sim that a band of mis-fit users modded into quite the production... Spawning off several theaters of WW2, as well as a stand-alone WWI mod with a pre-war add-on even!

Well I was browsing the interwebz the other day and ran across this site:

http://www.mightydrake.com/SDOE/HistoryInPictures/

There you can see some screenshots of when the game was still being developed (1998) - from the designer and senior engineer himself Michael Harrison.

One level up: http://www.mightydrake.com/SDOE/

Will show off some screenshots from just post-release 1999-2000, when pilots were enjoying this wonderful sim on-line with one another, or just flying the single-player missions.

It brought back some good memories for sure.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing ArgonV. I still have an aviation magazine around here somewhere with and advertisement for Fighter Squadron: Screaming Demons Over Europe. I spent a summer pining over the few screen captures used in the advertisement in the front of the magazine. I think I got it back in '99 and loved it. Things I remember about the game that are memorable to me are the graphics, flight physics and damage modeling, great airplane modeling and animations and satisfying, huge, black oily smoke from explosions. I haven't played the sim in ages but would like to. I need check out your work again. Can you post a link? I know it used to have a thread here on SimHQ but I don't see it anymore.

I too had a PC games mag which had articles about all the upcoming WW2 flightsim titles that were due to be released in the upcoming months. The articles went over SDOE, WW2 Fighters, EAW, Nations Fighter Command, Luftwaffe Commander, Confirmed Kill and some others. I think it even had mention of Sierra's Aces: X Fighters that got canceled. God I loved that issue, wish I could find it today!

When the SDOE Forum here got merged with the general Air Combat WW2 sims section the stickies went away. You can still find the files for the WW2 SDOE here:

http://www.openplanesim.com/forums/...ays=0&postorder=asc&&start=0

The WWI stuff is all stand-alone now. You no longer need a copy of the original SDOE game disk. You can find that install here under Install Option 3:

http://www.fsww1.com/

And there are add-ons to FS-WWI here: http://www.fsww1.com/documentation/downloads.html

Good to see you sir! Indeed those were some great times doing the R&D for FS-WWI and WW2. You should fire up the totally game CD independent FS-WWI using the link above. smile

Tempted to reinstall it as well ! Would be fun to put together a reunion. Good to see the files created by the community are still safe and available.
Thanks ArgonV !

Are you in touch with any of the old squadron members from the Flying Chickens?

Sadly I haven't need those handles in quite some time. The OpenPlaneSims forum is still up, and people visit and post on occasion:

http://site.openplanesim.com/forums/

All of the large mod files should still be here for WW2:

https://www.moddb.com/games/fighter-squadron-screamin-demons-over-europe

And for WWI:
