That actually makes sense Ssnake, never thought of it that way. I hate to give them credit for thinking it out though.

Interesting scam attempt that happened to my parents a few weeks ago, right before they moved...
Some kid calls and says,
========== "Hey grandma, this is your grandson."
Mom immediately becomes suspicious, doesn’t recognize his voice and mannerism (parents pushing 80 but still have all their wits).
Mom: "Which one?" (parents have 4 grandchildren, 3 girls and 1 boy).
"The oldest."
"What's your name?"
<hesitation>
"I don't want to talk to you, let me talk to Fred."
"What's your name?"
"I said I don't want to talk to you, let me talk to Fred".
Mom hangs up. ==========
Pretty obvious, my parents are listed in the White Pages with their ages, and my father is listed as "Fred" (which nobody calls him, especially his grandchildren who don't address their grandparents by first name anyway). The conversation didn't get far enough to tell exactly what the scam would be, but for sure he was going to claim he was in trouble and needed money.
Trying to prey on the elderly...sad.

Haven't seen a phone book in years,,That's good because I rarely make phone calls and no cell phone here I'm shocked that some phone companies still bother to publish them. What a waste of time and resources.

Just FYI: https://www.reputationdefender.com/blog/orm/how-to-remove-your-information-from-the-whitepagesReading the article, there's actually no connection between whitepages.com and the printed book (some interesting info on that link about it). I was referring to whitepages.com.

I have warned you all before that these are scams. I explained how I received one of these chances for found wealth if I just sent some money to setup the accounts and process the money. I told you all that after I sent the $10,000 fee to get everything established, the scam started. Rather than the $2 Million I was supposed to get, they only sent $1,600,000.00. So they cheated me out of $400,000. I tried to contact them and after the first email exchange explaining it all and them promising to send the remainder, they stopped responding to any emails. After 6 months and many unanswered emails I realized that I had been had. The victim of a scam. I had only gotten about 3/4 of the 2 million promised.
So, once again I warn you all that these get rich schemes are not what they appear to be. Don't get scammed.

That kind of call is often a panic call from a "grand kid" that needs bail money so they feel bad and don't get time to think.
Those listings online cross reference public records. They'll come up with links to siblings, kids, parents, list who lists in the home other than the homeowner...it's spooky. And that's the FREE reports. LOL

What I miss were those chain letters... one had something to do with Bill Gates and Microsoft and he was testing his email service or something. Forward to 10 friends and after a month, Bill can track the email and will give $500 or something to everyone on the FW: line. I remember seeing this when everything was new... Windows 3.1, the internet was via a modem, and I was in high school....

Someone I know was/is *very* concerned with online anonymity and wanted *zero* personal info accessible, and couldn't understand how some people can put anything personal "out there." It was a dig at me because I had lost my online anonymity when starting a sole proprietary s-corporation (software development), including a website listing my then home mailing address and phone number (although I had a second fax line installed). It bothered me at first, but I got over it. Anyway, to prove to him that his info wasn't as private as he thought, I went to a government website for his parish and downloaded the PDF paperwork (free of charge) for his then recent house purchase, including the numbers and his signature. He was floored and to be honest, so was I.

Just got a junk mail I am an American citizen, My name is Capt. Carr Kate Lee, a member of the U.S. ARMY medical team apart from being surprise you may be skeptical to reply me based on what is happening around world on the internet. I have just deployed to Syria.
I just discover One trunks of consignment boxes containing One Hundred Notes in 100 dollars bills. I have deposited the consignments with a security firm here in Syria. Presently, am looking for a trust worthy individual who will assist me in receiving the funds.
And the rest is just more B.S....You would have to be one dumb butted idiot to answer this one,,But I'm sure somewhere there is someone who did... You're too late. I just replied to the CAPT and am awaiting the payoff now.
What kind of car is that? What does it matter? When I drive it, I'm Steve McQueen

Just take it out of petty cash. I think it's in the secretary's desk on the penthouse floor.

He was floored and to be honest, so was I. That's about right. As Chancery Court clerks put deeds, wills, land roll records, property tax records, marriage licenses online, it all gets catalogued. Many have for decades sent out monthly filing reports to those that would pay for a subscription. That's how all of those home warranty companies, insurance and mortgage companies know when you've bought a house, taken out an equity line or gotten married.
