I know that both the F14 and F15 were produced by Microprose in the late 1990's with F14 coming AFTER F15. However, I have been able to get the F15 running with reasonably good graphics, but the F14 graphics are really bad. F15 is running with nglide and the F14, unfortunately, is running in Dosbox. The F14 is not on the list of nglide games so I may be stuck. Any thoughts?

F14 doesn't use 3D graphics and F15 is by Jane's/EA and came out after F14. Unless you are talking about a different F15 than I am.

Boy did I screw that up. No wonder F14 graphics are so crappy. Also, I cannot get trackir to work in F14, but can use the TrackirMouse in F15 with the virtual cockpit.

The original Microprose F15 Strike Eagle III came out before Microprose Fleet Defender. Both are old DOS games. Janes F15 came out later as stated above and has improved graphics.

FD will only run on a newer machine with DOS box and the graphics will always look like 1995.

Now I understand some of my confusion. The reference in the FD manual to Strike Eagle was to the old Microprose game and not F15 which was a newer Janes game.

I would say that it may even look worse than in 1995 due to the larger monitors/screens that we have today which makes the game even more pixelated than before (with the smaller screens of the 1990's).

I have a 27" monitor set to 1024x768 and my FD looks exactly as it did when I got it in 1995. Sure, the graphics and resolution are very dated but it plays just like it did back then. Still on of the great F14B model sims.

Just an aside here:

Some years ago, I got F15 Strike Eagle III running via DOSBOX. DosBox has options to emulate Serial connectivity over TCP/IP and we actually got a COOP Mulitplayer session going!! Unfortunately it was REALLY choppy and laggy which was unexpected since EVERYTHING was faster. Still IT WORKED! Since no recent sim except Longbow II has Front Seat/BackSeat COOP, it was worth the experimentation!!

Back in the old modem days, F15 Strike Eagle III COOP (leader/wingman) was INCREDIBLE fun.. We are so spoiled these days!!

Long system spec sig follows:

Lian Li ATX 205
MSI Z490 Plus Motherboard
Intel Core i7 10700K 3.8 GHz
32 GB RAM DDR4 1600
Nvidia RTX3070

Windows 10 Professional 64 Bit

Cougar Hotas S/N 26453
Thrustmaster RCS Rudder Pedals

I am running FD in DosBox 1920x1080 and like the game as there are only one page of commands as opposed to a zillion commands in Janes F15 and F18.

If I have the 2 extra campaigns to FD, but not the gold edition, does that mean that I have the latest patch to the game?

Have you been able to get Trackir to work with FD? I got it to work with the F15, but not FD as I couldn't locate a true virtual cockpit/mouse controlled key.

F-14 Fleet Defender 2.0 (with additional campaigns set in Korea and Pakistan) is the same as Gold but without all the multimedia stuff.

You probably will not be able to get Track IR working in FD as there is no mouse controlled virtual cockpit view there. There is only one controlled with joystick hat or numpad keys.

Edit: Also if you want to see what you are missing with all the "multimedia stuff" which Gold version added take a look here:

Damson is correct. If you have the Korea and India-Pakistan theaters plus the mission builder, then you have the last version of the game (minus the multimedia).

Hello,

yes only the videos are missing, the rest is completely identical of FF2.0 and the gold version.

By the way there was also a CD version of F-15 Strike Eagle III available those days. It had the gulf war theater and some interesting multimedia stuff about the Eagle and it's weapon systems. Does anybody know a link to get those old videos at youtube or somewhere else? Never was able to find it as a standalone video. I still own the CD but you could only run the videos with the use of dosbox.

I only wanted to have this multimedia stuff alone and that I could run at win 7.
