Every time I turn on my computer, even after a restart, Steam comes on with an update! This happens daily, sometimes multiple times!

Anyone have any idea what it is that steam is constantly updating?

uninstall it and reinstall it. (it shouldnt remove your games just the main program).

Also go into your settings and make sure your steam beta client opt in is turned off.

At boot up, it's going to check the version to see if it's up to date.
As for the updates and "steam needs to restart", I was noticing that I haven't seen that in a while. I'm not on my gaming pc much lately, but it stays on. I would've thought that would mean several updates needing to install with a restart.
Either it's restarting on it's own after a period of time and I'm just not on to see it, or maybe it's updating with the games update setting and restarting then? I've got it set for game updates from 2am-7am, but I was under the impression that was just for game updates, like it says.
I know they're paranoid about keeping up to date, but it WOULD be nice to have a setting for weekly only updates, at risk of some features not working every now and then until you do so.

That has nothing to do with the application itself.

I have this issue, too. I uninstalled without thinking about it and lost everything. I was a third of the way through my second playing of Black Flag, dammit. Also had Cliffs of Dover installed. I'm wondering if the anti-virus is stopping the update.

The black flag game save is elsewhere, you might still have it.
Might be under C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames

Okay, Raw. Yeah, I found that. What do I with it? Reinstall BF and then go in there to retrieve the saved game? Thanks.

BF should automatically register the old savegames. You should be able to just continue playing.

If that's the old one, keep a copy of it. Reinstall the game and like Para said, whatever save is in the default location it will play off of.

If the game supports Steam Cloud, even if the old saves aren't still on the machine, the cloud should have them.

The problem is with this being a ubi/uplay game. When it came out, uplay was still new. At one point, uplay was automatically set for cloud saves and you wouldn't have a save on your machine. Then the game got an update, or uplay did(?) and the ACBF save was lost. I lost my save, but I was only about 25% in. Still, had to start over. It never happened again, but I had cloud saves turned off after that so I could back up my save myself. Never had that issue again with this or any other game, but it was a pisser!
