I'm not sure if this is common knowledge among SimHQ historical naval warfare aficionados, but I sometimes get missions orders telling me that my targets will be somewhere around GIUK. My eyesight ain't what it used to be so I'm looking all over the Cold Waters map and I don't see a place called "GIUK." So I Google it and this is what is being referred to:

As you can see in the map, it's "GIUK", as in"Greenland - Iceland - UK". smile

Technically that's two gaps.

There are other missions that explicitely reference to the "Denmark Strait", so maybe in game terms, when it talks about GIUK, it might just be IUK wink

Yeah, and if it hadn't been 30 years since I studied my nice folded paper map that came with Red Storm Rising for C64, I might have gone the right way. smile

Intercept submarines heading for the North Atlantic. To Iceland we go!

I do wish they would do something to make orders make more sense. If my last mission was up in the Denmark Strait, how the hell am I going to be able to intercept a sub carrying Spetznaz from Murmansk to Andoya, Norway?
