With the big Steam sale going on, every AC and DLC is on sale except for Origins.
I've only ever played, and enjoyed immensely...AC IV Black Flag with all of the DLC including Freedom Cry (that I bought during a big steam sale awhile back...lol).
I'm wondering what I should get because there are so many, so what would be the better of the games in the series I should look at?
After watching some videos I'm kind of thinking of what looks kind of cool to me...AC3, Rogue, or Syndicate.
I've heard AC3 was kind of buggy, but the gameplay looks pretty cool during the American Revolution. Rogue is just a prequel or post Black Flag? Cool pirate stuff (but a quick game to finish?). And Syndicate just looks kind of cool...lol. At $10 a pop maybe I should get all three...lol.
Not looking for MP, so what say you folks as a must have AC?

AC3-Blackflag and Rogue are linked story-wised
If you liked Blackflag you'll like Rogue
Didnt have any real problem with AC3
Didnt play Syndicate, sorry
TL:DR Get AT LEAST Rogue, than AC3, and maybe Syndicate

What's a good AC game to start off on? I had Black Flag when I got my PS3 years ago but never really played it. So what's a good game for someone who has liked the trailers but has never really played the game yet?

Definitely play Black Flag and Rogue back to back. Black Flag has the best story and voice acting (Kenway is played by Matt Ryan from the Constantine show. He's really good.) Rogue improves the gameplay in the towns over Black Flag in a few very nice ways.
Unity and Syndicate drop the ship battles in favor of huge cities: Paris and London. Unity is rougher and the harder game combatwise IMO. What stands out is that you have a huge variety of weapons, unlike any other AC game. That adds a lot to it, and the mocap is goood. Still, not as polished as Syndicate. Syndicate has an excellent London. Very atmospheric. In this one, you play both a brother and sister characters. Lots of side missions, some dlc that's so-so. Added features like bringing some of your gang members with you to back you up or to command for strategic distractions. These are differrent, but in a good, refreshing way. Of the two, Syndicate is the better.
I didn't care for the earlier games I played since they had too much going on in the present day. These downplay that, but still advance the present day storyline some. I wish they would just drop that.

So what's a good game for someone who has liked the trailers but has never really played the game yet? Since I'm asking the question here, that tells you I'm no expert. However, since Black Flag is the first one I've ever played, it was a great game all around to me. Great story line, great missions, and pirate stuff to do as well. Sail the Caribbean and just be a pirate to gain money and resources to upgrade your ship, attack forts from the sea, go diving on wrecks and hide outs, go whaling for sharks and whales, hunting on islands for pelts and bone for crafting, explore islands, visit cities and take on assassinations or other missions. The graphics are still pretty darn good, and the voice actors for the characters are amazing. The only down side for me is the current day breaks they throw in, but I guess that's all part of the grand story line about the Animus. Thanks for the replies, I think I'll grab Rogue and see how it is for now since I'm used to doing pirate stuff...lol.

I enjoyed working up and down the river, and the gang fights a lot. Just wish we had the weapon options from Unity. The heavy swords were fun. The gangs and assassinns coming after you in Rogue should be in the newer games.

I get that they're staying around the regions they have due to the religious backstory, but I really wish they would put out a few games set in Japan and China. The gameplay screams for it! Plus, we haven't had a good ninja game since Tenchu Z on console. I'll get the upcoming game, but I'm not interested in the Egypt setting at all. I hope they tone down the repetitive present day Abstergo junk even more. The series doesn't need it!

I played ACI ACII and bought ACIII but didnt get but maybe halfway through before I lost interest.
Just picked up Black Flag and I cant put it down. It is so good. Be very careful about playing this before bed! You'll end up hearing the shantys being sung as you try to get to sleep. I know from experience...lol!

So after playing Rogue for about 5-6 hours last night...lol...it's pretty darn good. The memory leaks and breaks in time (planned in the game) are a little weird, and I did find a glitch while fighting at one time where a "place holder" image popped up on screen, but overall it's pretty good fun. After playing Black Flag most recently, the in game training went smoothly and the sea faring stuff fell right into my deadly skills self...lol. I did (and still do) a LOT of pirating in BF. I see now how AC3, BF, and Rogue are connected...it seems strange that they're all out of order though. AC3's character is Haytham Kenway. BF's is Edward Kenway...who is Haytham's father. Both are mentioned in Rogue about Haytham finding out Edward was a pirate. Oh well, I'll just play the game...lol. Thanks for the replies! I'm digging Rogue!
