Skipjack '68 Skipjack Permit (early) for 1968 campaign Permit Sturgeon (early) for 1968 campaign Sturgeon Narwhal Los Angeles
Will keep the game in the "to buy list" on Steam, hope you can add playable Soviet subs at one point.
At the rate things are going, modders will beat them to it! The game is incredibly moddable, and some folks are already having mixed success with playable red subs as a mod.

Has anyone done the 1984 campaign? I finished my first today. It took... 15 days Commies lost of course. I accomplished 7 missions, sunk 22 ships (11 subs, 7 warships and 4 merchants). A bit to fast and short IMHO. I absolutely love the game but heard that sometimes war takes more than a year. So how come mine ended so fast? I was very succesful at completing everything that was expected, focused on orders, avoided random encounters, but still....
Will start another one and see how it goes.
And it was cool that I was given a command of first LA class sub - USS Los Angeles SSN 688
IMHO it's very easy to get started. It's a lite sim. There are nice tutorials, very good and not so long (50 pages maybe) manual. The game is heavy on keyboard shortcuts so need to learn these but after playing tutorials you should know all of them. There are nice single missions with lot's of randomness so you can play them many times and learn stuff before diving into the campaign.
I also strongly recommend watching tutorials and streams from Jive Turkey on YT. He's done tons of them since release. He's an ex Navy (subs to be exact), knows his craft. His commentary is very informative. I still watch it regularly. It's a huge help for beginners.
How easy/hard is it to get into and play? I have zero prior experience with naval simulations...
Me neither, and I can safely say I'm having more fun with this than I have with a sim in a long time

It is Red Storm Rising with a graphical gloss (and some unrealistically high situational awareness due to torpedoes etc being drawn in the (optional) 3d environment for weapon avoidance (as long as you can detect them on sonar)).
While there might be a handful of differences beyond that I haven't seen anything substantial so far.
Yes Bisher, the Kresta - the nightmare. You can't sink him fast enough. Even after he is dead, his ASW chopper is still up there like a severed arm from a horror movie.
Was playing a new 84 campaign today. Still having problems completing mission but I got a little bonus today,,,The Kiev!
Made it back to Holy Loch with like 50% hull, a leaky reactor room and about 3 mk 48's left. Over 9 days I got the Kiev, a couple of escorts, 3 subs and some transports. Next up stop the Spetnaz landing from subs.

Look for me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tic Toc...or anywhere you may frequent, besides SimHq, on the Global Scam Net. Aka, the internet. I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

Then it was indeed a bad day for Soviet Naval Aviation, as they lost two Kievs to the silent service...
