Scenes like these just make it so painfully clear that the original BSG did not age well at all. smile

I don't know, it's not that bad. Other than that guy's thespian accent, but he was a popular tv bad guy for that.
One day people may look back on fat Apollo and Baltar caught having sex with an imaginary woman the same way. wink

I wish they'd remake the last BSG series, but without the religious nonsense.

That scene was from Galactica 1980, not the original BSG series.

Agreed, as a religious person myself I found much of that to crap on the show to be mildly offensive. I would much prefered a straight up "us vs them" storyline with much of the same intrigue, collusion, rebellion, treachery etc. but without the "Gods of Kobol" stuff.

Actually, it was from the original. Apollo wasn't in 1980 at all, and Starbuck was only in one flash-back episode. And I remember it well from when it was originally on. In the scene where they are tying the bad guys up, you can see two white "robots" in the background, one of which was played by Ray Bolger, the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz.

But I'm with RK on it, it just didn't seem that bad to me, especially considering when it was made.

Yeah, 1980 had the Starbuck marooned on a planet with

I wasn't offended, I just thought it was cheap. Much like making the cylons look human was cheap. The best shows had the robotic badass cylons. When they ran out of original material to rewrite (which was done exceptionally well), it was like they turned it into a totally different show because they didn't know what they should do with it. After the Pegasus storyline, it was barely worth watching for me.

1980 just had the one Starbuck flashback on the origin of Dr Zee and Adama had his beard. Grown up Boxey and his buddy were the new Apollo/Starbuck. It was mostly on Earth IIRC.

I've never understood all of the complaints with the supernatural/religious aspects of the reimagined BSG. The original BSG had those elements as well and its creator (Glenn Larson) was a Mormon who very deliberately infused the show with certain elements of that religion.

The whole "been here done that, gonna do it again" aspect mumbo jumbo wasn't in the original, as well as I recall. And it wasn't central to the storyline as it was in the new version. I just thought it created a feeling of oh well, they're predestined to go through this time loop or whatever it is and nothing they do really matters.

I also didn't care for the human like cylons who didn't know they were cylons bit either.

Hey, at least you gave the new BSG a shot. It just wasn't your cup of tea and that's fine! The same thing happened to me with a couple of other shows that I decided to give a try.

I will say this though: The reimagined BSG was from the very outset made to appeal to an adult audience and to also be a reflection of the times (9/11, war on terror, etc.).

The original BSG was made to appeal largely to kids and teenagers. It was a very deliberate attempt to capitalize on the successful formula of Star Wars.

Oh I watched every episode, and if it were available on Netflix / Amazon right now I'd be re-watching. Just because I don't care for some aspects of it doesn't' mean I didn't enjoy it.

It still plays on Hulu. I make sure to watch an episode or two on the weekends, if time allows.

yep

Mmmmm if I signed up for Hulu's free month I bet I could watch it all in that time!

Still waiting on a Buck Rogers in the 25th Century reboot

One day the West will fall. But if the Liberty for which we fight is taken up by the world then the West will not have failed.

That could be really good assuming the right people get involved. It also needs to go the dark, serious adult route like what was done with BSG. That distinctive 70's/early 80's campiness won't fly now.

Networks are too cheap to do a time travel based show into the future. They always go into the past or from the future to the present...which is BORING.

I believe the new Buck Rogers series you are looking for was Farscape...

That's true. PM won't watch it though, been trying to get him to for years. LOL
At least SyFy has had the right idea in the past and has been redeeming themselves in the last couple of years.
Dark Matter and Killjoys are both good shows. Action and character oriented, but not the drama of BSG.
