Does anyone here know anyone under the age of 25 who actively plays PC simulations? That includes flight sims, auto racing sims and naval sims.


Just curious to know for a little blog I've been working on.

My best friend's step son seems to be really enjoying ARMA 3 - does that count? He is in his early 20s.

Yes that countsl ArmA3 is a military infantry combat simulator at its core.

I know of a few that play World of Tanks, World of Warships, and various racing games, but none that play any kind of hardcore milsim.

Only my 7 year old grandson when he comes here, he does like to have a blast on DCS, at home he does not touch a simulator at all. His main interest on the iPad/iPhone is Flight Radar 24 and insisted his dad install it on his phone after seeing it on mine

He plays football in a team a few times a week as a sport.

We will be going to the Sanicole Evening airshow in September together, we have been going since he was 2 years old

Wow! He must be a pretty smart kid! Have you seen him actually use some of the avionics and weapons systems or does he just move the joystick around and make shooting noises with his mouth?

Nah, he just waggles the joystick around and plays in simple mode, I really don't think he would know what a gun was if one jumped out in front of him, his mom insisted that there is no shooting, so not even a pew pew pew from him.

IGen and late Millenials are primarily consoles and mobiles freaks. They simply don't have the attention span to tweak.

I know of one flying the DCS A10 module. Nothing else on his pc would remotely be called a sim.
He is such an introvert child all the others think.

Friend's 13 year-old plays Arma3, and I ended up helping him build a gaming PC. Never seen him in action tho.

My son will drive the Ferrari 488 GT3 around Black Cat County in Assetto Corsa for as long as I'll let him. He's not bad, for a kid. Has an appreciation for an apex at least, and didn't get frustrated in learning to slow down in time for turns.

In a few years we'll build his own PC and do some racing together.

We do have a couple of "youngsters" in our flightsim group, mainly playing DCS. I consider the fact the PC gaming is still very strong in Germany helpful in recruiting 'fresh blood'.

I mention it because really, it is THE BEST simulation of any real world thing I've ever seen on a computer.

As in the "suspension of disbelief" factor - with the right control and display setup (portrait mode, monitor laid back around 45 degree angle) there's very little practical difference between playing this or the real thing. (well other than the fact that there's no wear and tear, every moment of gameplay is in conditions of pure virgin "game one, ball one").

There is no flightsim, car game, shooter, etc that even comes close to matching the real world experience like this. My setup has been a hit with all ages, from age 4 to 71.

I know quite a few age 15 to 20+ who love Kerbal Space Program. I find that more encouraging than them playing World of Tanks etc.

Is that actual age or mental age? It wasn't very long ago when I was 25 and I was simming then. My eldest son used to play flight sims when he was around 2 years old and then again around 7-8 but has since lost interest. Minecraft and League of Legends takes up his time now. I've written about his short stint here.

My two boys and I enjoy a few games of World of Tanks every week.... but I don't really consider that "simulation."

I have shared some of my sims with my nephew to see if he would like them and he has loved them. He is now allowed computers and such at home(His mom, my sister is good about that)so any pc and console stuff he has to wait for until he goes to the other families' houses and even then he's only allowed a certain amount of time. He is ten years old and he's loved playing Rise of Flight, IL-2 1946, Silent Hunter 4. I'm trying to work on getting SH3 isntalled. He's nearing the age I really got sucked into loving aviation and such. He likes aircraft very much now but something I've noticed is that he really, really, really likes Silent Hunter and the Naval stuff. I've gotten some books and lent him some books and he's always asking if he can play Silent Hunter. Just yesterday he came over and asked if he could borrow The Hunt for Red October. His mom said she'd let him watch that. So I hope I've at least helped in getting him interested in sims which I think I have and one of the biggest reasons I want that for him is for the HISTORY that one will learn about while simming. I love history and my little nephew really impresses me from time to time as he'll come in and ramble off in great detail something historical that he learned. He reads books and watches the shows I like such as things like Dogfights and all the hunting Nazi shows. He'll sometimes spout off something about a WW1 plane or describe something from WW2 which is a period he seems to be drawn to which pleases me. I'm not an expert historian but I adore things historical and I like learning and I most of all want the younger generations to understand what they have and where it comes from and those who provided it. I want them to think about from time to time the generation of people who served during WW2. I encouraged my nephew to if you see a guy wearing a WW2 cap, go talk to them and say thank you because they are not long for this world and when they leave us the world grows dimmer. I don't have children yet but respecting yesteryear and giving honor to whom honor is due and remembering and knowing some history are things that are very important to me and I hope that I've been able to influence and encourage my oldest nephew in that way even if just a little.

I fly once a day, almost every day, one mission at least.

Both my grandsons get in the chair as soon as they get here, they fight over who gets first shot.
They are 14 and 17.
Both have been flying my box since about 2013, at least.
Using IL2/46/DBW and also the CUP version, which both are moving away from.

But almost always WWII campaigns.

The oldest one just got into the 'Quick Mission Builder' and flew a Panther......he's moving on I think.

They can't afford the PC, both have XBoxs at home.
And every time I see one waiting for his turn, they've got their IPads on some little game.
I guess it's just the future.....sad as it looks to me.
Why play on a little 3x5" screen, when you can have a joystick, pedals, throttle and a 24" HD screen????

For the younger demographic (under 25 or so), convenience and simplicity trumps everything else. You can't exactly lug a joystick, pedals and throttle around very easily when you are on a commuter train or bus.

Two of my kids have pcs but neither play sims. Shooters, minecraft and the like. Closest to a sim based game would be Dayz.

My best friend's son just graduated high school and he plays combat sims regularly. His father being military might play into that.

My 90 year old father thinks that IL2-1946 is awesome. The rest of my family just don't get it.
