The wife and I flew down to southeast Florida for the three day Memorial weekend. We haven't spent much time there other than me being there a few weeks after Hurricane Andrew. Not much sightseeing and fine dining. Anyway, glass smooth and perfect visibility flight down, smooth workings at the FBO and rental car, and hotel. One of the things I wanted to see was the Coral Castle. An interesting place that was on one of the History/National Geographic/etc channels. The mystery is how one small, sickly, man with no education higher than 4th grade was able to build this himself. The show was working in "it was aliens".
This video is a bit sensationalized and brings in the Twilight Zone stuff, but has some good things.
Fascinating place that you have to see in person to really get the feel and impact of. Like Stonehenge or the Pyramids. The wife started with little or no enthusiasm but really got hooked into the place. All without power equipment, draft animals, and alone. Most of his tools were made from car parts and are still there in his equipment room. Pretty sudden death.
I recommend it if you are ever in southern Florida.
Wonderful return flight. Flying is part of the vacation for me.

I've lived in South Florida for more than 35 years and I've never been to Coral Castle. Lol.

You should totally go.
That way when you get visitors you don't like but are obliged to "show the sights," you can take them there instead of South Beach or Little Havana or any number of tolerable or interesting places.

I went there at age 16 and I thought it was cool even as a hormone raging teenager.
If somebody was paying my way I might go to South Beach...might.

It really is ridiculous. Cocktail drinks will run you about $20 EACH.

I've always wanted to see that OG. I love mysteries/ancient mysteries/cryptozoology and all that kind of stuff. It really gets the juices flowing though when you read or watch programs on it. I've got the "In Search Of" series and this is a topic in one of the episodes. I've read and heard things like the kids back during the time it was being built witnessed him levitating huge blocks. The questions surrounding this strange little Latvian man who is reported to have said "I've discovered the building secrets of the Egyptians" and so forth is fun and interesting to me. I found something recently on Youtube, a fairly extensive video, where a man believes he has discovered how the coral castle builder did what he did and though still impressive, he says it was all done with conventional or natural means and that many of the tools and implements on display at the museum he thinks only confirms his theory. Either way its all interesting to me.

Yeah, Key Largo is a pretty laid back place. We spent a long afternoon hanging out here. This was early before the lunch crowd rolled. The live music was good despite the female singer having a pretty weak delivery.
