Yes, the homepage. Sorry. Same.
Docking computer? Don't I have one? I mean there's a doodad that tells me how to line up and beeps and tells me when I'm over the pad. Is that not a docking computer? Anyway, if it's not I don't think I need one. Docking's easy once you know where to actually set 'er down.
About the ships.... Good ol' Heatseeker is a fine ship no doubt, but I'm curious as to how soon my next one would arrive, to gauge how much I want to invest in this one. I'll google how to go about this.
Thanks for all of the great tips. The docking computer: When you request and are approved for docking, you throttle to zero and the computer takes over and autopilots you to a safe landing. Generally, I will fly my way through the slot manually (unless I am really lazy or cant be bothered finding the slot) and then throttle down and let the docking computer find and land at the pad. If you don't need one, that is great!! Frees up a slot! By the way, you mentioned clearing the save to rename the ship. Yes, I had to clear it lol. I won't again, I don't think. But in my mind this one had to go. Plus I was down to like 400 cr and that's no good. Plus I wanted to rename my ship Heatseeker biggrin You can rename your ship anytime as often as you like in the Outfitting->Livery section. No need to clear a save to rename

OK, thanks. Not yet. I am enjoying the flying and want to do that manually for a while. But maybe after a while it gets old and a computer to do it would be good.

The Cobra is a good all-rounder. You can have a lot of fun in that.

Thanks Chucky. Yeah, I think that will be my short term goal, to get a Cobra and kit it out and use it to try everything. I didn't intend for this thread to turn in to help the noob, but I do appreciate all of the help. It's good to see.
I might be able to afford one as early as tonight depending on how things go. I realize I need the money not only to buy the ship, but also the modules and fancy gadgets as well as insurance.
Insurance, that isn't something I need to buy ahead of time right? I get that option upon grisly death?

You automatically get insurance. You can check the insurance cost on the RHS display panel. Always make sure you have enough credits left over to pay the replacement cost or you will be dumped back into a basic Sidewinder.

Yeah, the Cobra itself is cheap, but I would say to kit it out well, if not optimal, will set you back a total of about 2 million. You can mess around at the Coriolis link I sent upthread and see what everything costs. Note that not every station has all the parts, so you have to do some searching. GENERALLY Hi-Tech systems have most stuff. You can always use INARA or other tools to see what the closest stations to you are with the desired ship/modules. Here's a pretty Vanilla Cargo Cobra for about 1.3 million. OF course everything could use an upgrade or a downgrade for price.... Vanilla Cargo Cobra

I'm in no hurry. Everything is still new and cool. Need to enjoy this part of it as much as possible.

No, I am finding it all very helpful. And I will happily accept any advice of the 'you should know about' variety. I'll give an example.... When I first got a Track IR I posted and asked if anyone had any tips on getting it set up and using it with BMS. Nope, just plug it in. OK. So I did and found that the centered view was too high. So I 'discovered' that if I looked up 5 degrees, then centered, it was perfect. Later I was flying with a couple of guys and I offered the sage advice to look up 5 degrees and then center. "Yeah, everyone does that" Hmmm.....

Do you mean the thread where you are handing out new ships like candy? Thanks. And I might take you up on that. But for now I figure I may as well see what I can do on my own while I still have fun working toward a new ship. But probably as soon as I start to feel the grind I'll take you up on it lol. That's the whole idea. It's supposed to jump-start your career... it won't eliminate the grind, it'll just make you more efficient at it sooner rather than later. For instance, you can start trading in your Sidewinder with its cargo capacity of 10T and grind your way up or you can start trading in a Type-6 with its cargo capacity of 112T... this doesn't mean END GAME but far from it... it just means you'll make better use of your time. About 4 times I got intercepted. It transitions in to a screen where I am chasing an escape vector. I successfully evaded each time, but what should I be looking to do here? Can I see who is intercepting me to decide if I want to duke it out? I've made no upgrades or changes to my starting Sidewinder. How should I be looking to configure it? Or will the next ship come quickly enough that I don't need to worry about it? And finally, I didn't see the 'ship shop' to look at potential rides. Where do I do that and how much would the next good ship cost? Is the Eagle the natural upgrade or what did you guys move up to? You can cycle through the ships in supercruise; I forgot what the command is but it's there. You'll see the "bad guy" making his way behind your ship so if you manage to select him, you'll know which ship he is in and you can decide if you want to stay and fight or run. However, even if you decide to run, it's still best to just submit, then once in normal space, run away like crazy and jump back into supercruise or better yet, jump to another system. The only real reason to play the mini-game is if it's really easy to do. Otherwise, just submit. The next "good ship" depends on what you want, really.... but the ships in my programme have been selected because they're quite good at select roles. Until you decide which way you want to go, the Cobra Mk III is an excellent ship that is multi-role. One thing to note is that while a Cobra itself is "only" 350K credits, a decent fit is around 1.5M credits and that's not even A-rated stuff yet.

Let's set it at 2330 BST then? Where are you located and what's your commander's name? Are you familiar with Collector Limpets?

Done. You da man. And it's Ackerman Market, not Ackerman's Though I still don't know if that's where I am. It was late, and I had a bit of a space buzz if you know what I mean, so not exactly sure where I left my car

Thanks to Ice's kickstart I've been making good progress. Enjoying the experience. I've got a good handle on things, have the stick all mapped out. I've now got a stable of the starter Sidewinder, and fully kitted out Cobra MkIII, Eagle and Viper. I use the Cobra for my travel and trade, the Viper for prowling RES sites (got a half million in bounties on one hop yesterday) and the Eagle for loving space flight and running home with 80% damage I REALLY wish they had opted for better cockpit visibility in all ships. It's just so cool and beautiful flying around and a cockpit like the Eagle's is so sweet. But we got what we got eh? Is there a good way to 'pause'? I know it's a persistent world, but what I mean is if I'm halfway between stops and the kids are yelling Dad!! because they can't change the TV channel or need more Goldfish is there a good way to reduce the chances I'll come back to find I'm dead due to being jumped? Are there statistics? Like it would be cool if I could see how many light years I've flown, how many kills, biggest profit, longest jump, money spent/made, that sort of stuff. I see some guys post that they've spent 2.14 billion or whatever, and it's so specific it made me think the game displays this info somewhere?

Safest way is ESC and QUIT TO MAIN MENU. It is a pretty quick resume from there. I get the same thing...especially around bedtime when my daughter yells down "DAD.. DOCK YOUR SHIP AND BE UP IN 5!!!"

Right panel under STATUS. You can scroll through some other tabs and see all of that stuff..

Thanks. About the status panel... how do I focus it? I can't seem to scroll down?
And I didn't realize I could save outside of stations. I would resume in the same place in space?

Here is a guide of sorts to the status panel: Right Panel Since everyone's mapping is different I can't tell you exactly how to focus, but for me, I use the DMS switch to move between panels and TRIM HAT to move within them (across and scroll). In the screenshot shown at the above link, where you see REPUTATION, with arrows you can toggle through various status screens. YES you can save outside stations and you will be brought back pretty much exactly where you were. If you are in SuperCruise, you will come back in "normal space" at or close to that point.
