I have always said the only dumb question is the one you don't ask so here it is.

Once you make a skin and have it in a dds format, do you have to use the DXTbmp program to put it into the game or can you go directly to the skins folder and drop it in. Inquiring minds want to know!
Thanks in advance gents

Mark, once you have saved it in the proper DDS format you need only copy and paste it into the "Skins" folder. Just be mindful of how you name it as the sim can be a bit picky about recognizing it if you don't follow the same format.

Thank you Sir! That's what I thought but my thinking has led me down the wrong path before.

Lou's given you basically the most important tip, there. I think this is in the Skinning tutorial thread as well, but I'll say it here; just copy/paste the name of one of the Ace skins for your plane/squadron and change the name to your pilot's name. Makes it easy to find.

...and make sure you use DXT1-Compression and let your Program create the Mipmaps... and show us your Plane :-)

Thanks to all for your help. I have managed to get the skin, such as it is being painted by a bunch of mechanics with no artistic talents and too much schnapps! I now have something to work with and will redo it. So, Here it is. Nietzsche, I suppose DXT1-Compression has something to do with quality having no idea what it is, will be something for me to look at in the future.
