In WoffUE, If historical missions are checked "OFF", will the quiet=0 and the battle raging=1 qualifiers in missions be ignored when Woff selects a mission?

Many thanks for your help.

Tango

Hi Tango. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the WOFF code, so I can't give you a definite answer. I don't know how historical missions code affects 3rd party mission mods. However, I believe you are correct because setting it to OFF will also cause it to ignore the squad specific missions and randomly assign one instead. Also, I remember experimenting a couple of years ago with 0s and 1s without finding any difference in mission assignments. Things could have changed since then.

Salute Oldhat my friend!

About two years ago you wrote me a note in modifying existing missions and I saved it.

It is very helpful and you provided a large amount of good info.

I'm experimenting with doing a patrol along the lines on either the friendly or enemy side.

Sort of a 5-10km sweep along the lines and not just to only one sector.

I may have to use the mission editor but I'm trying to accomplish it with only mission mod parameters.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Many thanks,

Tango

Can you explain what does it mean: "with only mission mod parameters", pls?
Maybe I could customize the Mission Editor to fulfill your editing needs?

Hi JJJ65,

Thank you for your generous offer.

With your great mission editor I'm almost 100% positive that I can already mod a Campaign mission before flying it and add a route between two line sectors 5-15km long just by adding a flight route way point on either side of the line.

What I am trying to mod is the existing mission files like for the British Fighter missions for 1916 and in that way, have a permanent modified mission where I would fly 5-15km along the line either on the enemy side or the friendly side.

Oldhat explained about modding these mission files around 2 years ago.

The missions are in \OBDSoftware\WOFF\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\.

Here is an existing mission that I am trying to change:

5
Patrol Enemy Front Lines
Patrol Enemy Front Lines
"startloop"
"endloop"
Patrol enemy lines - be on the look out for enemy aircraft and ground fire
Enemy
cap
frontsectors
none
none
none
1
CAP
EOR

With this mission you will fly to a single enemy sector and patrol around that sector only.

I'm trying to figure our how to modify it so that I will patrol multiple enemy sectors.

Many thanks!

Tango

I do not know if I got you well, Tango, but the lengths and/or directions of individual legs are hard coded in WOFF, so you will not able to change it by simple modification of Mission type files. WOFF places just one "startloop" and "endloop" waypoints with internal algorithm known to OBD (Windman) only. You can manually move both waypoints (in ME) to extend patrol area and you can try to insert new "turn" waypoints in between (honestly, I do not know if CFS3 accepts any waypoint between "startloop" and "endloop", since I did not test it yet).

Salute JJJ65 and Oldhat!!

I modified the mission last night and tried it three times with Jasta 2 in 1916 and I was able to have the mission show a second way point along the enemy lines maybe around 7-10km long from the first one.

Both way points were at front sectors which was what I was trying to accomplish.

Here is what I did:

5
Patrol Enemy Front Lines
Patrol Enemy Front Lines
"startloop"
"endloop"
Patrol enemy lines - be on the look out for enemy aircraft and ground fire
Enemy
cap
frontsectors
none
none
frontsectors (added)
1
CAP
EOR

I will try it tonight with a British or French mission of the same type.

Many thanks.

Tango

Tango, it seems you are hidden talent thumbsup .
Good job with this finding. Do you know what the other ("none") lines are (or could be) used for?

Hi JJJ65,

According to Oldhat, they can be other way points but how they are parsed by WOFFUE I am not sure.

I realize I could have done the same thing with your very fine mission editor and I could also have opted to lead a flight and cover multiple front sectors as long as our flight spent time over the prime objective sector.

The was just something I wanted to do after Oldhat had kindly sent me mission info years ago.

Best Regards,

Tango

Hello JJJ65 and Oldhat,

I tried the same mission with RFC squadron 46 in April 1917 which is located much farther from the front lines and it did not work very well.

The second way point was in the middle of the route to the front lines. Almost like a way point to meet up with planes to be escorted.

So I would say that the mission editor with modded way points is the best all around method.

Tango

Do not give up, Tango. Maybe other combination of waypoints can do it. It is just trial and error.
