What kind of games do think you would like?
Hex based?
Real time strategy?
Combination?
I have a few games that I use and an hour or two waste of time.

Battlestations Midway/Pacific
Two of the finest games ever created. I wish we could get more. World in Conflict w/Soviet expansion is a TON of fun. Not hardcore, very cinematic and just a good time. On top settings it's a lot to run even today, but it has an extremely FULL set of graphics options so you can get it where it runs well on just about anything.
·Steam: Raw Kryptonite ·MWO & Elite Dangerous: Defcon Won ·Meager youtube channel·Intel i5-9600K ·EVGA GTX1070 FTW 8GB ·EVGA CLC 120 Cooler ·16 GB Patriot Memory VIPER 4 3000MHz ·GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS PRO WiFi Mobo · CORSAIR CARBIDE AIR 540 case ·BenQ BL3200PT monitor

The latest Combat missions games are pretty good. If you like more complicated hex based games the War in the Pacific or War in the East or West are involving and have long term replay value. Panzer Corps is a good 'beer and pretzels' game, similar to the old Panzer General games that were popular in the 90s but with better graphics.
I personally am looking forward to Operation Art of War IV which is based a lot on the old OPART games that were made in the late 90s.

What about any of the Total War series?
Yeah. I'd say anything up to Rome 2 would be playable on a laptop.
