A long time ago, I started looking at the UH60 model in EECH, and had a load of thoughts about how to improve it.

One of those thoughts was to create a 3d cockpit based on the real MH60 used by special forces.

So after 6 years, a marriage, and 2 kids, I'm finally able to release my early version of this.

It's flyable from the pilot side. You have a main MFD with all the usual screens. There is also 2 smaller MFDs which show the flight display (which is a work in progress, being taken from the Apache), compass, and system page. The barometric altimeter, radar altimeter (up to 500ft), airspeed, and vertical speed all work (although the scale may need adjusted slightly)

Please try it out - this release is for testing. I've only really flown it in free flight to check that code changes were as expected, and I've not done many hours in it. There are quite a few unfinished things in the cockpit also. The upper console and engine controls are unfinished, and the centre console is as it was for the 1.15.4 release as part of the cockpit improvements work. Also, the cockpit cameras are all in the wrong place, but this is also how it was in 1.15.4, so I'll be correcting those in due course. The pilot control stick is also obviously in the wrong place, but I need to investigate why that is, as it was ok in 1.15.4.

This release is for v1.16.

You can find download instructions for 1.16 on these pages...

http://eechcentral.SimHQ.com/index.php?title=Installation_guide#installation_procedure

To install the cockpit files (you might want to make a back-up first);
  • Unzip the file somewhere
  • Copy cohokum.exe into the \cohokum folder of your EECH install folder
  • Copy the cohokum\3ddata\objects\mh-60l-cockpit folder into the cohokum\3ddata\objects\ folder
  • Copy the cohokum\graphics\textures\cockpit\uh-60l-cockpit folder into the \cohokum\graphics\textures\cockpit\ folder
  • You might want to delete, or take a backup of, the game.cfg file. It will be regenerated.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_9WsInmSbhuQnQtUUNSalZQNjA/view?usp=sharing

And that should be it.

Please let me know of any issues you find. This is a debug build, so it should create a Debug.log file.

One thing I would like to know about is frame rates. On my ageing laptop, I was getting drops down to 10fps or less at times, but it seemed linked to the environment rather than just the cockpit.

I've also changed the font for the headings on the main screens. I play at a resolution of 1600 x 900, and the font was stretched and unreadable. So I've changed it so that it looks ok at that resolution, but if others could check it.

I've also changed the default resolution from 800 x 600, to 1280 x 900 as I think most PCs these days can handle that resolution.

Enjoy!

p.s. I'll be continuing to work on this in the meantime, so this isn't the final release by any means.

If you download this, would you mind completing the poll? I'd like to get an idea of who's using it.

Is that just when you run it? Have you installed 1.15.4?

You might also have a crash.log.

Ill pm you my email.

I've put the link back. It should work OK now, and changed to use Direct Sound instead of OpenAl

I am sorry to say, but I am too busy and lazy to pull up another installation of EECH, as I am using the latest.
However, if you really need feedback, I will do it for you, because I appreciate your work!

I'd really appreciate the feedback. You can actually install 1.15 into a different folder from your current install, and run both versions.

But if it's too much hassle, don't worry about it. It'll get released when it's done, regardless of how much testing has been done.

I'll probably update the download link soon, as I've now added a digital compass, and working on bringing over the flight display from the Apache.

Are you running 1.16 just now?

Yes, I have 1.16,
I hope I will have some time during the weekend for testing...:)

Thanks, I'd appreciate that. Seems like not too many people are bothered about this anymore frown

I think the already small playerbase has all gone away over the last year.

Hi messyhead,

I really would like to test your BlackHawk cockpit even because this is the EECH addon that I'm anticipating the most.

Unfortunately "real life" got in my way recently and I haven't had any chance to test it (or even to play any game for that matter) frown

I can confirm your cockpit does not work in 1.16 but you already knew that. 😁 Your cohokum.exe won't load the rest of the 1.16 install. I tried inserting the cockpit folders just to give it a go but the cockpit does not display - for me anyway.
I am willing to install and try it in 1.15.x but I have deleted all my pre 1.16 EECH versions. Can you direct me to where I can download the appropriate 1.15 version? I have my original Apache and Comanche Hokum CDs. Could you also confirm which Blackhawk version I should be using. Not sure if I'm up to date on that either.
Thanks for your previous works. Hope to use this one.

Sorry to get back so late. Tried 1.15 but keep getting an error message about direct3 missing. Installed 1.16 with no problems. What does 1.15 have that the Blackhawk pit needs that it won't work in 1.16, or is it some file structure problem?

Can you post a screenshot of the error? It doesn't need anything extra to run. But it's using direct sound, so it might be that.

Thanks for giving this a try. The cockpit code isn't in 1.16, so it won't work at all. I'll do a 1.16 version in a while, but I need to convert the textures.

You can find download instructions on these pages...

Downloaded and installed 1.15 and all referenced mods and patches from the urls you pointed me to. Runs fine until I copy in your new cohokum.exe, then game crashes. Also when I copied in the uh-60l and ah- 60l cockpit folders there was nothing to overwrite in the objects or textures folders - is there a UH-60 update prior to your cockpit files that would have generated those folders?

Anyway from the end of my Debug.log:

Can you go back to the original exe and run it, and see what version it shows? It should be 1.15.4. Also try going into free flight and see if there is already a blackhawk cockpit

Actually, I think the error is to do with loading some sounds, so it might be that there's something missing.

Check the version that's installed, and let me know.

The install files and instructions are tricky to find on the forums, so I might have missed something.

MESSYHEAD,

The installed version available from the EECH Central site only takes me to 1.15.2. I looked around for a 1.15.4 update patch but could not find any. Maybe 1.15.4 addresses the sound issue. If you know where I can get 1.15.4 or if you can send, let me know.

Regarding Blackhawk in free flight, I must admit the Blackhawk was never available to me except through campaign, never in free flight. Same goes for 1.16. Does 1.15.4 provide free flight access to the Blackhawk? The Blackhawk in 1.15.2 comes with the cockpit shown in the attached .jpg file link. [BTW a similar one shows up in 1.16 but with lighted functionality].

http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.p...bcd6246b3e2e750fe2dfcd59b0f34ad&f=13

I appreciate the time you are giving to help me get this up and running. Hopefully I will be able to give you some feedback for your cockpit work instead of dealing with this installation business. Usually I am a much quicker study but for some reason...

Mechanic.

Sockzien made a cockpit for the Blackhawk, and I've modified that. I'll try reinstalling it and see what makes it 1.15.4. If I've got the file, I'll upload it somewhere.

Did you install the 1.15.2fix5 update?

Ok, found it. It was released under the cockpits improvement thread, I'm not sure why it wasn't an official release.

If you install ver0.3 from the thread below, it should add the cockpit.
