I think I may finally take the plunge and get it. It's been way too long since I've flown a WWII sim.

Same prices on their site.

https://il2sturmovik.com/store/battle-of-stalingrad/

Keep in mind you cant mix their copy and steam copies so if you want to combine copies (BoS and BoM for instance into one package with all planes and arenas) you need to have all versions from the same place. They only do their preorders on their site so if you think you might ever pick up a preorder of Kuban or the Pacific (when it comes out) you might pick up the game from their site instead of steam.

Thanks for that tip Master.

I have one question. Does IL-2 BOS currently support a full fledged cooperative MP mode like what we had in IL-2 1946?

No, (from what I remember) it's system is more like RoF (post MP expansion). The game really is just WWII RoF IMO. Not a bad thing but it doesnt really expand much. I do admit though that I am not an expert on this game. They may have changed a lot of things since last I played (BoS beta when they #%&*$# everyone over and I rage quit). You might need to venture onto their forums to figure out the correct answer to your question.

Are the online servers active, like IL-2's were, back in the day? Especially during United States prime time hours?

Well, ROF fully supports cooperative missions so if IL-2 BOS has that same setup then that's good enough for me. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't like Cliffs of Dover where all you can do is head to head dogfights.

I fly exclusively single-player, so take everything I'll say on Co-Op in the following paragraphs with a grain of salt:

1. In the beginning lack of decent co-op modes in IL-2 BOS caused a lot of disappointed postings in the official forum.
2. The producer(s) and developers of IL-2 BOS got better at communicating with the community, managing better understanding of what can be expected from them with their limited resources (time, manpower, money)
3. They are listening to the community.
4. They are implementing wishes of the community inside the limits of their resources.
5. Greenlighted wishes have been communicated in this developer entry #120 here. Some are already implemented in some program updates that arrived earlier than most guys and gals expected.
6. This developer diary entry #135 talks about the coming multiplayer updates for IL-2 CO-OP and deathmatch.

Go buy every promising sim - we, the community, don't need to fight each other (that's what the virtual battlefield's for)!

So is that a yes or no to coop in game.

Yes you can use the RoF map editor for coop but its not the same style as the old one life all on one side coop that the original RoF had. BoS (at least at first) only had the DM style MP with AI. You could make scripted coop missions but it wasnt exactly the same. I dont know if that has changed though. It looks at least like they plan to change it if it's not already.

Does anyone know if they plan to allow players to control ships? They did the tanks which is really cool in BoS but once kuban and Pacific come out it would be really cool to control the ships even if it was just like the way Aces high does it.

Thanks for that info Master. I still don't understand why both CLOD and IL-2 BOS didn't just improve upon the Coop MP from IL-2 1946.

It seems like a no-brainer to me.

These United States of America
I bought this over a year ago but have such little time in it. Did I read someone's post correctly and the same team is working on a Pacific sim? Or just a Pacific theater? I guess I've been out of the loop.

So how dead are the multiplayer servers in US prime time?

It doesnt have enough players to make the standard steam stats page but there is this.

http://steamcharts.com/search/?q=stalingrad

That doesnt include people who play off steam. Says there are 161 steam players right now (3:30pm CST).

Their goal is a pacific game. Right now their next game is Battle of Kuban

https://il2sturmovik.com/store/battle-of-kuban/

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/25072-announcing-battle-kuban-and-development-plan/#entry385578

Then

Battle of Midway
Battle of Okinawa
Battle of ... (undetermined)

The Kuban is basically the Crimea peninsula so they want to flesh that out and work on their "water tech" with that release before jumping into Midway for a full pacific release. Everything is subject to change mind you and they are not the most rock solid company for meeting goals/deadlines and appeasing their clients.

At some point it is going to seem like I am ranting... but one more thing to note.

RoF had a massive failure because it limited the maps you could play to maps you had bought. You could play with people flying planes you didnt own but if a map you didnt own came into rotation it would boot you out.

It would appear that they fixed this for BoS and etc. I can load into the Moscow summer map just fine and I only own the BoS game. This means that you dont have to own all the games to play online MP. You just need one of the planes being run and most maps (logged into the top 5) had BoS stock planes for people even in games that were running other maps.

This is #%&*$# amazing for a flight sim! I cant even begin to say how good of a thing this is for the IL-2 community. The release of the channel map was the death nail in the coffin for RoF IMO. By giving everyone the maps even if they dont buy the new game they have ensured the longevity of the MP community. This alone almost restores my faith in them as a company. I might have to buy the other expansions now.

How long is it on sale for?

Also, is there a way to avoid the experience bar?

Not sure I know what you mean by the "experience bar", but since Jason took over 1C, the stupid-ass lockouts are gone.

And for ranting, Master gave a pretty accurate description. It's fun and getting better. And can't wait for the Pacific Theater.

Times of IL-2:46 HyperLobby COOP is thing of past. It's over, it's not coming back.

BoS allow COOP - but in that RoF way and the mission maker need good time in their Mission Builder for create a COOP mission (or other kind of mission), dealing with dozens/hundred of triggers.

CloD AGC server host missions "B of B" focused that is much more than "head to head doghfights", HRCOD War campaign is COOP like the old IL-2:46 SEOW COOP campaigns.

Part of the COOP problem in actual games is how the players look at this. smile

Because the "il-2:46 HyperLobby COOP is thing of the past. It's over, it's not coming back." wink
