What is considered to be a normal pulse rate for someone who is at rest?

I thought it was between 60-100 depending on fitness. Mine was high with slightly elevated BP hence the weight loss and increased exercise last year.

Yes indeed Having been the recipient of the gift of life in 1968 I try to replay that and am a frequent donor in honor of those who gave to me

I believe it's 60-80 resting. I know for aerobic exercise you're supposed to go over 130, but all I need to do is climb two flights of stairs to get that. smile
Then it takes me a good 30 mins to get it back to 100.

I used to till the Red Cross would harass me at work and up to 10pm at night to make appointments. If they would have better house for those of us who work then I would do it, not taking time off from work to give blood...

I know they can get persistent with phone calls, or used to. Maybe they do email now, which I can deal with. We have a "honeypot" phone number for such things anyway, I give that out for places other than school/medical type things.

I give platelets fairly regularly and, yes, the phone calls can get annoying, unfortunately. They need to dial back a little on those.

I give around every 2 months if they take it. Sometimes I don't because I go to Mexico at times when they have a ban on blood donations for people who had been to certain areas there. but so far, I'm clear.

My niece has a very rare syndrome called Apert Syndrome and during her first skull surgery when she was a few months old, I made a directed donation for her. It was never used because my sister and her husband's blood was used instead of course, but it was good to know that it would have been a help.

I got an email from the outfit I donate to once that the blood I donated was being sent to the hospital for use with a patient, and this was less than 2 days after I had donated. That was amazing to me, and clued me off as to how much blood is needed all the time.

I don't mind seeing the needle go in, in fact, I watch it all the time and have never missed seeing it. What I don't like it going near closing time because they tend to rush and miss the vein. Then they leave the needle in you and fish around until they find the vein. Not fun. Also apparently my blood pressure is low so sometimes they have to keep an eye on me because if it takes too long to finish, they abort the process. To me, that's wasted blood so I always am hoping they keep me on. But I never get light headed or anything like that. The only thing that I notice happens from time to time is I get emotional. My friend says it's the equivalent of me getting PMS---blood loss, emotional...etc.....

Heh.

Used to give blood, need to start again, no excuses, just need to do it. The first time I gave blood was interesting. My body had a completely over the top reaction to the blood loss. It removed the blood from my extremities and pooled it centrally with a vengeance. All my fingers actually became really translucent a good way in from their edges. I was fascinated and felt absolutely fine throughout, but the doctor and nurses were having kittens. They wouldn't let me go or even sit up and kept giving me extra cups of tea and biscuits! The downside was when my body decided I wasn't going to die from loss of blood and let the blood return to my arms, legs, fingers, toes. The pins and needles was absolute agony! Fortunately it never happened again when giving blood.

Sorry, man, but you're a replicant. Classic signs. Hate to be the one to break it to you, but that's how it goes sometimes.

I try to give it as often as they'll take it. Always feel great afterwards, like I needed to get rid of it.

Jedi Master, I've also heard it can be beneficial to donate blood. This according to Why Donating Blood is Good for Your Health
One of 4 reasons given in the link- "The removal of oxidative iron from the body through blood donations means less iron oxidation and reduced cardiovascular diseases." I highly recommend the read( only a page in length) at
the website, medicaldaily.com ( Link above).

Dart, I'm A negative, too. smile

Can't. Congenital heat defects and numerous heart infections.

Other's in my family did to support the blood banks and to replenish what I had used in my surgeries. It became a habit for them with my sister doing it monthly. Since they both have type O their blood was needed a lot.

Ah, yes, must balance the humours.

I'd take the whole "bloodletting is good medicine" thing with a grain of salt.

Is it still the case you can sell your blood in the states.
I have often seen it on Tv shows jokes about having to sell blood for money.
