Couple years back I went to (at the time) local veterans day thing in Anacortes, Washington. For the ww2 guys they went threw a number of them and where they where/what they did. One I was surprised was at Pearl Harbor. I forgot what ship at this point. Kind of crazy going about your day to day and realize some guy in your podunk town got a front row seat to THAT day.
