Checked the tracking number today to make sure it was shown as out for delivery and it won't be here until Tuesday. I was told it would be sent two-day air but they sent it ground.

It's funny. I have dozens of really cool games that I've spent alot of time playing. But last night I was staring at my Steam library and all I wanted to do was fly F4. I can't get inspired to do anything else.

I'd get you a vid of me practicing connecting to the tanker in a turn, but OBS doesn't want to play nice with my 5896x1080 resolution....

Why?

My current goal is to master the Quick-Flow procedure. I'm getting comfortable tanking in a turn that a PIO during the turn does not worry me anymore. I can back off, settle down, come back in, and re-connect while the tanker is still in a turn. The funny thing is that once the tanker levels off, my arm's been so used to pulling back ever-so-slightly that I need to get rid of that tension straight away or else I'll get a disconnect for being too close to the tanker!!

I remember not-so-long-ago when I'd panic once the "heads up" call was made. If I was already on the boom, then I'd do my best to stay on, but if I disconnect or if I wasn't on the boom at the start of the turn, I'd just try to hold position (not very good at it!!) and follow the tanker through the turn and try to connect again as soon as he levels off. NOT having to do that anymore feels GREAT!!

Refueling during a tanker turn eh? You know if a pilot falls off the boom he buys a round for the whole squadron back at the club.

So I'd try during the straight bits to avoid a big bar bill.

I thought this wasn't an issue for you? Didn't you say you didn't need help, and that you could quit anytime you wanted biggrin biggrin biggrin

Yeah? But what happens when they realize you can't connect in a turn?? Me thinks they would change your callsign pronto, and it's something you wouldn't like!

Getting used to using OBS and thought of doing this video.

Quick Flow procedure, tanking during a turn, and a little formation practice. Quick Flow is at 5:00 in the video. Interestingly, my resolution is 5896x1080 and watching the video on 1080p looked really poorly and I had to watch at 5K to get a clear video on playback.

linky

Video looks clear to me on 1080p.

I'm watching on 1 screen though...

Nice job!

At 5K res, that's what I see on my screen. At 4K, it looks a little blurred. 1440p and lower and the HUD is just un-readable. Can you see my airspeed and altitude on the HUD on 1080p? Can you read the DED?

Great job. Cool video. I couldn't read anything on the HUD but then again I'm on my 17" laptop.

Power supply is to be delivered today though so it's possible I'll be back up and flying. Of course, it could be the mobo in which case I will be back to square one.

That's my issue at the moment... do I record just the center screen at 1920x1080? But then I'm getting visual cues from my side monitor that the viewer will not see. Do I record my entire display at 5896x1080? Then those who are watching at single-screen setups won't be able to read my HUD as it's so tiny...

IMO, if you use head tracking, you will likely be having eyes on target most of the time. Those things in your peripheral view are going to be omitted in the video, but chances are, you will be giving them a glance at the least. I would try it and see. Not much to lose by doing so.

That being said, it kinda looked like you were using the POV hat in the video.

Not being able to read the HUD in 5896x1080 wasn't really an issue in your video, since AAR is mostly visual cues, but in other situations, it would be helpful to some one wanting to critique your flying! wink

Exactly!!

I was using the POV hat just to look for the lead aircraft... I'm finding it much much easier to notice tanker drift if my view is not moving... same for formation flying.

I don't know. Seems like you could just stick some shiny bits on that halo and you're good to go. More robust than any of the clips out there now. Problem is it's more of an upper-body tracker than a head tracker. But you'd get used to it.

Power supply arrived, I put it in and same problem as before. I now know that the power supply is not the problem. Uggg.
