Using an FX8350 with a 390x on a DK2 and it's pretty smooth, with the random hiccup.
As Ice stated, there are some drawbacks (resolution and system map), but I wouldn't play the game outside of VR since I've played it in VR. The resolution isn't that big of a deal for me, I've gotten use to it and I can always lean in and see the text clearly... you can change the coloring on the text also, which makes it a little more legible.
Dogfighting, flying through the Res asteroids, landing, strafing around ports... you're in the ship looking through the glass overhead and on the sides to keep tracking your target. I had the cockpit glass break on my sidewinder once and I was able to stick my head out of the window and see some of the outside of the ship... that was pretty cool! I really enjoy just driving around the surface too, I'll enter turret view and use my rudder pedals for steering and the wheel on my
HOTAS for the throttle as I'm traversing the turret and looking around independently from it.
For me... oh yeah, it makes the game great! I'm trying to wait for the next version of the rift instead of buying a CV1, but if my DK2 went down, I'd buy a CV1 the next day.
Other stuff like DCS and Dirt Rally are incredible as well.
