Yeah, your ship won't be able to make the jumps if it cannot reach the next system, but IIRC, the solution would be a longer route with shorter jumps. Surely there are systems that are 5LY or less? That, or upgrade your jumpdrive. Default Sidey should have 6.9LY jump range, 15.3LY just upgrading into an A-rated FSD. Upgrading everything else to D-rated systems and it goes up to 17.7LY, but only for 3-4 jumps... so better take a fuel scoop with you!

Hey Letterboy,
Nice to see you starting the game. I'm currently ~9000 Ly away from human space out near the Bubble Nebula but I've been thinking about traveling back to my home system before space madness permanently sets in (yes, precious).
Since we're on the same timezone, why don't you friend me in game (CMDR Rook) and once I arrive back, I can escort and guide you to some of the mining sweet spots that are mostly undiscovered by the player population. I can also bankroll your initial expedition to get your mining operation well up and running.
Just let me know...

As an addendum, I did some mucking about on coriolis.io and here's the ship I could set you up with for your first expedition. Coriolis - Cobra MkIII Miner configuration She's a good ship, with room for improvement as you gain income. The weakness in this build is mainly cargo space, but 16 tons of painite will still net you ~600,000 to 1,000,000 credits per trip. Realistically though, you are more likely to fill up with platinum and palladium in a range of 200,000 - 300,000 credits per trip.

I've never used a docking computer... to me, that would remove one of the things I really enjoy about the game, manual landings

I've never used a docking computer... to me, that would remove one of the things I really enjoy about the game, manual landings Sometimes, after the millionth landing, it gets boring. Especially for a trader. Undock - Jump - Jump - Dock, rinse, repeat. Heck, sometimes I wish there was an UN-DOCKING Computer. "Take us out, Mr. Sulu!"

Ice,it was you who convinced me to go for one when I was binge trading in my T-9. Now every ship has one.And yes,an un-docking computer would be on my buy list.

Well that was after a certain patch.Since then a shield became a necessity and ship loses were minimised. Not eradicated, just minimised.

True, true!
Annoying how an Anaconda can carry around the same cargo but have better jump range as well.
