So, how many of you played some of Dynamix's work at some point in time? I ask because I recently came in contact with the co-founders of the former company, along with an Associate Producer and the historical advisor for many of their games. I wrote a short three part series of articles about Dynamix sim history, and have a couple of brief interviews from those former staff. They touch some on how the games were made, and what kind of details/work went into making a flight sim at that time. For those interested, I have Part I up at the ATAG site, and can post links to the other two once they are posted: Part I Part II Part IIIAnd, the original thread on ATAG: Thread

Yup,I grew up with their games. That's a good read and if you don't mind me quoting a section of it,this just about sums up what's wrong with flight sims today. Are there any features of more modern flight sims you think are lacking, or could use improvement?
They need soul.

Wow, that brought back some good memories. I had them all, Abrams Battletank, A10 Tank Killer I and II, Red Baron I, II and #D, Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe, MechWarrior, and Leisure Suit Larry.
Coincidentally, I tried to find some of the old Sierra/Dynamix titles, to no avail. I just finished building a retro flight sim machine, and have been reacquainting myself with some of the Jane's titles I already owned, like Longbow AH64, USAF, F/A-18, F-15, and Longbow 2. They have, like the Sierra/Dynamix games, a lot of SOUL.
The only current flight sims that have that special ingredient are WOFF UE, Battle of Britain II, CloD with TF Mod, and BMS Falcon.
There are no accidents and no fatal flaws in the machines; there are only pilots with the wrong stuff.

I can't read the article. I might start weeping. I miss those times and those terrific games. My first was Red Baron on the Amiga 500. It was better than the first PC version because the PC lacked stereo at the time, but the Amiga had a stereo chip. The sound was awesome. I was hooked on flight sims from that day forward.
Another word for soul" in flight sim terms is "immersion." Today's technically awesome flight sims are lacking in immersion--the ability to make you feel as if you are really there, that you are part of something. Games with soul cause you to dream and imagine. It's not about graphics or 4K resolution.

I grew up on Dynamix sims! I loved them, played them all and still have them installed and working in DOSBox. Between their sims and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe... That's what got me into simming and computers!

Thanks for creating this, really loved their flight sims, in fact Aces of the Pacific was my first flight sim and still have the very big box together with the 1946 addon box.

A-10 Tank Killer and the Aces series were among my favorite Dynamix titles. The Aces series had they "you are there" feel. I also remember their GA sim, Pro Pilot. I still have my manuals and boxes (flattened). Unfortunately my disks did not survive the transition of time. I have to agree with the interview that today's sims lack soul. Don't get me wrong, I love today's sims but there is something missing. Maybe I'm just older...
Thanks for posting...

I loved playing unhealthy amounts of Red Baron sometime back in ye olde 90s. Surprised my eyesight survived the ordeal . I remember neat stuff like getting medals, seeing newspapers, fighting zeppelins, learning not to break wings apart trying to dive too fast, customizing paintjob of own aircraft after a certain bit of renown (this last one sounds pretty much modern games stuff). It was there I learned about many WW I birds too!

Thanks for the memories! I beta tested for Dynamix and Thrustmaster after they found out I actually had a Tandy 1000 with 16 color graphics. LOL Dynamix didn't believe me when I reported one time... It only happened once, but when I crashed in the A-10, in the middle of the fireball it said "YOU ARE DEAD" for a second. Never did get Aces over Europe to work well on the Tandy.
