S! I have WOFF UE DVD version 4.12-4241 loaded but not sure how to 'activate' (if that is what you do) skins download. I tried flying Jasta 7 in a a couple of different time frames but no Jacobs in his fire breathing Winged Devil scheme. Am I missing something? Thanks! S!

Have you downloaded and installed the skins from this page:

http://www.overflandersfields.com/products.html

As noted on the page, the skins themselves are a 2GB+ download, there was not room on the DVD to include them.

Also note on the same page there is additional music that can be downloaded.

Stache, S! Thanks for your response. S! I owe you a beer! After loading DVD and registering I downloaded the music and skins from the WOFF home page... or at least I thought I did. I will try it again. For a non-fluent-in-computer guy like myself what is the way to find out other than experiencing them firsthand?

Hi ARUP,

A quick and easy way to make sure your skins installed correctly is to check your WOFF "Skins" folder. Others will know the exact number, but it will grow from about 2000 files (skins) to about 6000 (skins) files. When you see that you should be seeing the skins "in game."

Thanks Bucksnort, I'm not too sure about knowing how to do that on my Win7 system. I was able to see that my rig has 'captured' the downloads if that's what terminology is used. I created a new pilot to fly with the 'Green Tail', Franz Buckner et al but the Albi just have plain skins. There weren't any 'werewolf', 'bones' or Rumey 'stripes' to be seen. I need to know how to 'turn them (skins) on' if someone could be so kind. I really am very stupid when it comes to computer stuff.

You will need to unpack the .rar file. A good free program is WinZip or 7-zip. Google either of those.

Smosh, S! I bought WinZip to avoid having to jump through all the hoops to get the free version. I think I unpacked the file successfully. I enlisted in Jasta 7 in the proper(?) time frame to see Jacobs' black birds but no go. Nothing but lozenged camo D-VIIs. Then I enlisted in Jasta 5 and saw Rumey's candy striped bird and Konnecke's checkerboard bird. Are these 'skins' standard fare for WOFF UE or are these part of the skin pack? If they are part of the skin pack then this blind squirrel found a nut for a change! S!

When you unzip the downloaded "skins" file, it should create three files. One of the files is an installer ... on my system it is called WingsOverFlandersFields4_Skins_Pack.exe. You have to run the installer and you should see the program installing all the skins. It should be very obvious that it is "doing its thing". (If none of that sounds familiar, you probably don't have the skins installed yet.)

I am not sure about the skins in Jasta 5. Bucksnort's post above gives a great way to confirm if you have succeeded.

77_Scout, S! When I did the 'unzip' three files did show... in multiple layers! I had to 'check the box' to direct the unzip command. The files had headings like you suggest but they were truncated so I don't really know if the 'exe.' file was included or not. As they were 'unzipping' the only thing I see is a bar graph. It isn't like when you install the Sim and see the file names for fractions of a second on the screen as the install progresses. I tried counting files on the screen but, (2000 vs 6000 to try and verify a file count increase as per Bucksnort), man, that became tedious after a few hundred! Thanks for your input. I think it boils down to me just not knowing my way around computers. I'll just keep hacking away and try to figure it out. I still like listening to vinyl records instead of CDs so you know where I am technologically speaking! lol S!

Just open the skin folder in Windows Explorer and in the bottom left corner you can see number of files (skins) included.

OK, sounds like you have unzipped the files OK but have not run the installer. If you run the installer you WILL see the files being installed similar to what you saw when you installed WOFF (it asks you if you want to install the skins pack, and you see all the file names whizzing by, etc).

So ... find the installer program (just look in the folder where you unzipped the skins download) and double-click it to "run" it.

As mentioned above by JJJ65, oh dear, please do not try to count the files manually! Windows will tell you how many files there are in a folder.

It might help ARUP if someone can show a screenshot of the unzipped folder showing which file needs to be run? I can't do it at the moment as I'm at work.

Good idea Smosh.

Unzipped files will look like this. I have them unzipped to a folder called Skins, but they will be in whatever folder you unzipped them to. Double-click the installer file (red arrow added by me to show which file)

S! Okay guys, I found the file and got a window like the above. I clicked on the icon just like the one you have the arrow pointed and things started to happen! I started to see the files flashing along with a green bar graph then I clicked the 'finnish' button. I'm gonna go try some scenarios and look for some aces. Thanks very much to all of you for helping me with this. Like I said before... I'm really stupid when it comes to computer stuff. If you ever need help getting your tiddly-winks to work then I'm your man! hahaha S!

Sounds like you've succeeded ARUP. Hope you see some flashy paint jobs!

Good. Yes most downloads /updates need to be "installed" in some manner. Unfortunately at the moment computers aren't quite clever enough to allow you to just plonk a download on your hard drive for it to magically be decompressed and it's contents be placed into the correct location smile

hahaha Polovski... what's holding ya back, fella! I want my computer to be able to do that! Can you make that happen? I told you I was stupid with computer stuff! Now... if you want me to generate some scale plans for RC model airplanes including cross sections et al just from photos and at least one known dimension then just ask! I do it the old fashioned way using pencil, paper, a whole lot of pink erasers and trigonometry via the Mark I computer between my ears!

S! 77_Scout and everybody, I'm starting to see some 'purdy' airplanes! Thanks very much! This sim is the only reason I built my new rig a couple of years ago. S!
