upload pics I've decided to get back into painting. Maybe try and sell some of my work. Just finished this tonight. I'm pretty happy with it.

Thanks. I painted over an old work that I never finished and thought that it wouldn't show through once I built up more paint on top of it. But it still does and now there's nothing I can do about it. It's the U.S.S Spence, a destroyer that went down during the big typhoon off the coast of the Philippines near the end of WW2.

Very dramatic depiction enhanced by the dramatic lighting of the ship. Dynamic too; I find much military art to be somewhat static in the artist's striving for authenticity.
Hope to see more!

Crappy way to die.............
Believe it or not, she capsized but there were some survivors. Most of the crew went under with the ship, however. She was part of The Third Fleet which was raiding Japanese airbases on the Philippine Islands in December of 1944. Admiral "Bull" Halsey was in command. He ran the fleet right into the middle of the storm with a great deal of destruction and a heavy loss in life. Every ship received some sort of damage and three destroyers went down. One of them with all hands. The Navy wasn't happy. There was a board of inquiry and Halsey was relieved of command of Third Fleet. Incredibly, he was returned to command the fleet the following June and only a few days later...ran the fleet into another Typhoon! This one here in my depiction was officially called Typhoon Cobra. But it has gone down in history as "Halsey's Typhoon" and that is what I've titled my painting.

Thanks very much for the kind words. I'd been away from painting for so long that I wasn't sure if I still had it. Glad it's being well received. Helps with the confidence a lot, naturally, and makes me want to keep on going. I've lightly sanded down that rough part where the old painting is popping up and I'm going to redo that small area. I'm glad it wasn't where the ship is. Should be easy to fix. Again, thanks guys.

I would've thought it'd be darker to warrant such a huge wave? But I'm not familiar with this "event." In any case, superb work!! How big is it?

It's a small canvas. 24x20.
