Been having a ton of fun doing the training missions in the brand-new DCS: AJS-37 Viggen!

The Viggen's a Swedish supersonic strike aircraft designed to deliver its weapons from treetop level at high speed and then to get the hell out of dodge. And it's a real joy to fly!

The 3d model looks fantastic, the cockpit is very detailed and the lighting from the radar and various light sources is amazing, though shadows are kinda buggy in the current pre-release/beta version. And the sound! IMO one of the best modules in that regard so far.

Ready to taxi, you can actually drive backwards using the thrust reverser biggrin

Basic navigation and getting a first feel of the aircraft

Landing is not difficult and incredibly fun due to the thrust reverser that enables the Viggen to come to a full stop after a ridiculously short roll out.

Naval strikes with the RB04 anti-ship missile

Looks like targets to me

On their way...

The RB05 is an interesting weapon: an air to surface missile that needs to be guided by the pilot using a stick in the aircraft and tracking the flare on the missile until impact.

Yep, sounds difficult. And it is. But also great fun when it works!

And of course:

I've only played around with the Viggen for a few hours since yesterday's release but so far I'm thoroughly impressed. The Viggen just oozes quality and it's apparent that it is a true labor of love. Since I love doing strike missions this is going to be an aircraft I'll be spending many, many hours in.

Aaaand a few from an MP training sessions:

Surely RB05 would be an Air to Surface missile?

Para_Bellum, hope you don't mind me posting here. I needed a diversion from real life so I purchased
the Viggen. It's cool!

Nice shots, piper!

And yeah, the Viggen is lots of fun. We did an OCA strike in MP yesterday, near supersonic ingress at treetop level, hair-raising stuff.

biggrin

It's looks pretty sweet, just wonder where all these winter terrain textures are from ( sorry only just getting back into sims from a baby induced hiatus)

Welcome back, Donk!

cheers

Don't know what piper's been using but I'm currently using Mustang's terrain mod, looks great if you like less snowy landscapes and is performance friendly:
