This video gives a good explanation. You don't need to watch all of it but from around the 14 min mark you can see that a stealth attack by a DD on a BB becomes very difficult if the BB player knows how to use RPF correctly. Of course you could argue that it's also a game-balancing feature.
Thanks for the video Chucky. So it is indeed a persistent skill, and as is pointed out in the video, the captain with it always knows the general direction of the nearest contact. Sorta sucks when the biggest tool with DD's is their stealth for scouting and attacking. Luckily, I have only seen this skill twice now.
Is it worth dropping some $ on a premium ship for those of us who do not have the time or inclination to grind?
Well, the premiums do tend to generate quicker credit and captains skills increase quicker too, so in answer to your question, yes they are worthwhile. However, I would caution you to not buy into too high of a tier, such as the tier 8's. Stick with the lower tier 2, 3 and 4's. The crowds are generally newer and just as likely to make big errors in judgement on how they play. IMHO....
I love my premium ships and play them more than anything in my harbour.
Atlanta Tier VII (most played ship-600+ battles) Kutuzov Tier VIII (smoke camping beast) Often needed when you find yourself in tier IX and X battles plus with defensive fire ability all CV's tend to avoid you,or not,at their peril. Belfast Tier VII Gremyashchy Tier V Nikolai I (tier IV BB seal-clubber) Also,my best winrate of any ship at just under 70%. Graf Spee Tier VI
My credit stash always sits around the 100,000,000 mark although I'm not a prolific purchaser of new ships. I just wish I could bring myself to spend real money and convert the 2.4 million XP I'm sitting on.I would get a Missouri,I understand she's a licence to print credits.
As Strykerpsg stated, once you hit the higher tiers you notice it gets harder. If I have a bad session I often delve into the lower tiers at times.
Buying into higher tiers can be brutal.I bought the tier VIII Lowe in World of Tanks and that was an eye-opener.I was abused frequently by the other players as I really had no idea how to play it. I still don't apparently.
I've just deleted World of Tanks, probably for the last time.I was grinding my tier VIII Russian TD ISU 152.I was working towards obtaining the 'troll-cannon' BL-10 but quite honestly, the higher tier players were making the game a misery.I think I'm a poor WoT player tbh and that I should stick to Minecraft if the comments are anything to go by. It just infuriates me at times to the point I want to sweep my PC off the desk after yet another disappointing session
*EDIT* Just trying to work out how much it would cost to convert that XP. I think 1 doubloon converts 25 XP so 2,431,508 XP = 97,260,32 doubloons. That sounds like around £240!!! Ouch.
I guess it doesn't have to be a problem. If you are pretty good at lower tiers the skills you learnt there will help you.
I just used my WoT experience to show it can be brutal. I bought a tier VIII premium after only a few hundred battles.I think my highest vehicle at that time was probably 3 or 4.
Having said that I've seen some pretty terrible tier X players. I often wonder how they got there.
What's the problem with buying into a higher tier?
*Edit: Saw Chucky's post now.
So is it a significant learning curve at the higher tiers?
One problem with buying into tier 8 is you will almost always be thrust into tiers 9 and 10. If you're just beginning, your new captain will be vastly underwhelmed with a lack of captains skills, and the high tiers is where the captains skills especially shine or make/break you.
Admittedly, I too bought an Atago and Atlanta. tiers 8 and 7 respectively. The learning curve was huge and the Atlanta especially, has a unique learning curve not newbie friendly. As you can imagine, you get hugely chastised by your team for not contributing much to the higher tier fights.
Personally, I would look into the lower tier premiums and enjoy learning the tier 2 and 3, dabbling a bit in each of the lines to see how your play style is. Also, input the SimHQ guys, we're on often enough and have no problems division'ing up with a friendly ally.
At Chucky.....you can always take a small loan to cover your conversion expenses.....kidding! As always, jealous of that sort of free XP floating around.
I convert regularly, matter of fact, just got my Yugumo. Now to fully kit it out before taking her for a first sail.
So is there like a SimHQ clan or something in the game or how to find you guys?
I think most everyone here has just added the various players that have input their in game names and saved them as a clan on the WoWs portal. Then, when you see them playing, just send them a message to join them. Most everyone I have ever played a round or two with are always very helpful and extremely sociable. If you have a headset with a microphone, you can join us under Team Speak and utilize real time voice communications, which helps dramatically in learning too, in my opinion.
So, now that 0.60 has been out a week, thoughts on Commanders skills and your reaction to Radio Location? I literally got chased around one map last night by a British CL in my Kagero. I would torp, he would evade and continued to shadow me for about 5 or more minutes. I personally am not digging this for any DD's.

Radio doesn't seem to have affected my gameplay much, i only equipped my Kagero with it (since sold) just to see how it worked. About half of my games i am constantly contacted which works ok because then i know a DD is more than likely hunting me so it makes me zig zag a bit more Tier 9 and ten i am seeing less radio location than lower tiers. I wonder if a good team/division would be able to triangulate?

Holy ship! Just had my best game ever in terms of damage. Bismark of course
Forced C cap as at the 13 min mark the game was looking very suspect. We were down on ships and caps. I called for help and pushed a Fubuki out of hiding at C cap then popped Hydro and let the secondaries nail him. The New Mex rolling with him had two of us Bismarks sorting him so the poor bastid was stuffed, finished him with a cit and then moved towards B.
Traded shots with a Bismark and Mogami on the way, the Bis was reversing in B..i'll never understand peeps reversing. I would rather risk a broadside just to move into kite mode than reverse. The mogami hid behind an island and i had a Chappy a Tirpitz and another Bismark on my Starboard side focusing me so i alternated secondaries depending on who was closest and kept angling like mad moving about mid speed.
Finished off the Reversing Bismark in B (Idiot) and then sent a salvo off at the Chappy. Chapppy disintegrated so i focused the Tirpitz while the Mogami moved in to release torps, put the secondaries on him and crossed my fingers i wouldn't get broadsided whilst slowing down and turning. The Bis and Tirp were coming in Port and Starboard so if they were decent shots, or rng favoured them, then i was looking at serious damage.
Put one salvo into the Mogami after dodging torps and then finished him with secondaries as he sent his other tubes my way. A full broadside at a close range Tirpitz finished him and i just managed to be out of his torps range and now had only the last Bismark to worry about. He was at nearly full HP but a first salvo knocked that out of him and we were close, secondaries were going nuts and hadn't stopped for nearly eight minutes
This last duel i just stayed angled and let him chase, opening my broadside every time after he fired and whittled him down. Secondaries finished him, second game off the day and my hands were mildly shaking when i finished lol, i was watching the score from about 150k on thinking come on son! You can do it! Once i passed the 218 mark, previous best in the Bis, it was all bonus from then on. Good times

Admittedly, I have not seen it as much as I thought I might. It does seem to be more prevalent in the higher tiers. I have not added it to any of my captains yet but I only have a handful of 14 point captains. Your thoughts on triangulation have some merit but I suspect would only work in a Division that continues to fight together. It would indeed be a great hunter killer concept.

Ranked coming soon and Belfast seems to be the picked as the current OP ship to have, no divisions though thank god
That was a nice result Ajay. She's the next ship on my research list.
I just looked up my best damage done in a match and it's 183,000 in the Izokaze. I'm number 265 in the damage chart with that result,I don't think I'll ever best that tbh. I seems to me that I was getting better results much earlier on in my career where the player base was also still learning. It looks like I'm just not keeping up. I can't remember my last Kraken
Maybe I should just go seal-clubbing in the lower tiers for a while?
