Even if it's not perfect, anything beats having to do it yourself. But, unless they equip it with some sort of anti-theft device... I'm not going to have $4K happily strolling on my front yard when I'm not at home.

You'll have to pay extra for the non-lethal knock out augmentations that can be added to the robot mower.

You can find it with your 9K laptop. What I'd really like to see are exploding dye packs for big smart phones and tablets..... Stolen??? It would be kind of like a messy self destruct command you can send. I am thinking permanent day-glo shocking pink would be a good color.

Given what you pay a bunch of people to do that for you, how long would you need to own that before you broke even let alone came out ahead? Then add maintenance and/or replacement and I can easily imagine it costing you more.

I still prefer to do it myself, this is what I have been using since February 2007. I have 967 hours on it so far. What really sucks, the city seal coated my driveways and parking lots with granite chip 2 years ago. Talk about wearing out scraper bar and shoes fast. I have to make double orders when I get them. they grind down so fast. https://www.flickr.com/photos/1001jimk/albums/72157594558177608

If they put a PTO and a blower attachment on the front, I think it would be awesome.

Given what you pay a bunch of people to do that for you, how long would you need to own that before you broke even let alone came out ahead? Oh yes, but this has nothing to do with money. I love my Roomba for instance, I could pay someone to clean for me, and she would do a lot more than just sweeping the floor, but hey, a) I don't have to talk to people (always a plus ), b) there isn't a stranger in my house when I'm not there and c) a cleaning lady is not modern nor cool. I wouldn't bother hiring someone to clean, I did it myself, but given a, b, and c... why not. I imagine that any kind of robot doing something for you would have a similar psychological components.

Roombas are cheap, though. It will last several years and it will pay for itself inside that time. The problems with having cleaning people in your home is possible theft, disruption of your home, possible theft, lack of privacy, possible theft, unreliability (maybe they show or not, maybe they do a good job or not, and of course possible theft. Yard work is pretty much immune to that unless you leave your windows open and small valuable items on your porch. The Jedi Master

I'm not going to have $4K happily strolling on my front yard when I'm not at home. It doesn't seem like something that'd be much of a theft target. It'd be heavy and awkward to get it on/into a vehicle (and likely not quick either), you'd be practically guaranteed to be having to do so right in the open, you'd likely need several bodies (which dilutes the profit), there probably wouldn't be a big pool of potential buyers, and fencing something like that locally would be an almost assured bust (so then what, transport it out of state?). But then again I'm thinking logically, many thieves probably don't....

There have been plenty of reports in the news of unusual thefts. People stealing things that are not only very large but also not valuable, raising the question of just WHY they did it.
As for that thing, neighborhood teens are all it takes to find your auto mower has managed to go over parts of your yard that were not grass but shrubs, wind up on it side, and with a dulled blade as they threw beer cans and other items under it to watch it chop them up.

Apparently a lot of people steal stuff just for the "thrill" of it.
