Coming on well Nixer

I can't draw to save my life but my late uncle could and did make a living from painting, I have quite a few of his works on the walls here and at home too.

Too many reflections to get a good pic of the paintings with the phone but here are a couple:

He is more known for his seascapes and fishing boats

Uncle Arthur is the one in the hat, picture was taken around 1930, my father is the boy hanging on the top of the car and my grandfather is on the extreme left.

You win one Internet Dollar for using manatees and algebra non-ironically in the same sentence.

Really like that last beach painting, you've nailed the brightness of the white sand and the foaming wash of the waves.

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead?
Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick.
Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake.
No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

Nice Nixer!
My wife also paints. Oils, wet on wet method mostly, from 'Bob Ross'.
She likes yours Nixer....and doesn't say that unless she means it, trust me wink

Also mentioned Alicatt's late uncle's painting of the trees.
Most of hers are of our land, the forest....trees.

Good stuff guys smile

We've got about a dozen hanging on our walls, ran out of 'wall room' years ago.
Now we just 'rotate' them, putting up the new ones, to replace the oldest ones...... biggrin

Thanks for the encouragement folks.

It's a lot of fun and challenging at the same time. I am starting to dream paintings...yeah I know it sounds weird but true, and getting up in the middle of the nite to sketch/paint it. Really don't sketch much as I can't draw well at all. I just start throwing water and pigment at the paper mostly.

That last one is the unplanned second in my "blue moon" attempts. First one was a postcard I sent to my ex!(She framed it!) Next one is gonna continue it with some kind of sea/swamp/dock/harbor/misty sunset/sunrise thing. Working on some stylized trees for now...

Thanks again for looking. yep

If I had an "ex", and I sent her a "Blue Moon", I doubt it would be something that she wanted to frame. biggrin

Agreed...until I had to face the reality that she is the grandmother of my grandchildren.

We keep our distance but get along and I get lots of good info from her....she always was a blabbermouth. exitstageleft

LOL was gonna post a pic but now the site won't let me as the file is too big. Same camera (phone) as the last one. I guess we have to leave room for the ads. dizzy

You need a program that will make any jpg's or bmp's smaller.
I use the IrFan viewer, it works well for me, has for a longgggg time.

I just checked and the original maker of the program doesn't have a web site any longer, or the old one is gone.
I found this;

Free IrFan viewer

But I can't endorse any of the links, but I can recommend the IrFan viewer as a really small and non invasive program.

If all goes bad, send me your email via a PM and I can mail it to you.
It's actually only 391kbs.
VERY small.

It makes any jpg or bmp the size you want.
It also does 'batch conversions', and lots of other stuff, if you get into it.

I never keep my photos as big as they come in the camera, you can't even send those via Email.
Some are like 3000 Mbs, just unnecessary for normal viewing on a smart phone or even computer.

All just IMO, of course..... wink
I'm sure there are other programs that do this also.

-----------------------

Edit;
Just checked, the new one is much bigger, it's over a MB.
I don't know which site is best to get it from, maybe TechSpot?

Someone else might have a better supplier, dunno...

Here's how I reduce pics and all you need is Windows (XP and 7)...

1. Pull up the pic in Windows Photo Viewer.
2. Press PrtSc (copies screen into clipboard).
3. Paste pic into Windows Paint (Ctrl + V).
4. Move pic (Ctrl + A to select ALL) to upper left corner of Paint.
5. Size pic (Ctrl + E to set pixel size).

Something I noticed writing my "Downtown Baton Rouge" thread...

If you pull up an iPhone 4S pic into Windows Viewer, hit the middle "Slide Show" button and do a print screen (PrtSc key), the pic will paste in Paint at exactly 1024x768, at least with a 1366x768 laptop resolution.

I never edit my pics (except for a rare zoom in window) but I do resize them to match my satellite ISP speed.

Keep it up and never stop.

I followed a friend on facebook who posts very beautiful water color paintings. Out of curiosity I checked his eariler works and got a glimpse of how he progressed as an artist. His works now are at a totally different level. It's nice to see an artist improve over time.

Yes, come to think of it I get The Moody Blues' Days of Future Passed vibes from it. Not that it looks like it directly, more in the color combinations.

Amazingly that last one I posted ended up being published in my college's Artsy Fartsy Annual rag.....am stoked. winner

Have been "off" for about a month now, back to school Monday. I have been painting quite a bit but trying new stuff, going real slow with stuff I like...kinda being a wuss as in afraid I'll screw up something I started well....and I do...especially after a couple of extra beers or glasses of wine. yep

Screwed the pooch on this one...but I still just like it anyway. My first gator....

Puff

Have fun in 2017 folks, I am damn sure gonna try to myself.
