hello everyone,

two days ago i've learned this game exists... currently i have two hours till the download completes.

I have been playing prepar3d for a year and i am reasonably good with GA aircraft and know the basics of flight but what really got me is the detail and campaign mode. essentially I love role playing and ww1 and airplanes and this really seems like a match.

however, i guess there is a lot to learn here and wanted to know what stuff do I need in terms of mods before I start playing this game.

any tips for newbie are welcome.
thanks!

I would suggest to start off with no mods. The base game is awesome and you won't be missing much playing the game as is. Also, it is best to keep things simple for the first while and make sure the game plays well on your rig before adding more moving parts. Once you have things running smoothly for a while then go ahead and check out the mods section.

Welcome, by the way. It's a great simulation and a great forum.

Welcome to WOFF mbarbaric, this might well be the start of a new simming love for you. Fly with no mods at first. You are going to get inmersed in a way no other sim may have made you feel before.Enjoy!

Welcome to the fray, Mbarbaric! There are two tools I would suggest you download from the official WOFF site.

One is the "JSGME Mod enabler" (this version is specifically tailored for WOFF). This allows you to install and remove mods with one click. I recommend you stay with JSGME enabled mods so that you will not have to worry about the integrity of your stock WOFF files. If you install non JSGME mods you will have to be concerned about renaming stock files for fall back and keeping track of these can be time consuming and tedious.

The other is the "WOFF User files backup" utility. This one will backup your pilot files and customized user files and will allow you to restore said files following any castastrophic events.

Hi mbarbaric, welcome to the fray.

Yes mods will work if installed in the middle of the campaign.

Mods I like are 1) Tracers, 2) Weather types, 3) News Mod, 4) Bomb Sight Mod, 5) Populated Airfields.

And as Robert mentioned the JSGME to enable to mods and his User File backup program is invaluable.

And be sure to download the additional skins from the downloads page.

What are your system specs?

I just went to the Mods page and downloaded JSGME as a test and it worked for me, so maybe try again.

There is no broken link. I just tried it and it downloaded fine. I suspect you had a bad web connection. Try again and report back.

From all I have heard recently - no WOFF UE does not need CFS3.

From the WOFF UE FAQ...
You need to own Microsoft’s Combat Simulator 3.

I am no expert on how WOFF sim interfaces with CFS3, but was lead to believe that WOFF only needs to detect CFS3 on your system and from there on no longer needs CFS3 to run.

Welcome to the virtual skies of WOFF mbarbaric, you are in for a treat. Once you have yourself sorted out and your kit stowed away and have logged a few hours in the air you may wish to try your hand at real navigation as well by using the maps I built some time back. You can find the link to the download in the following post:

WOFF Western Front Map Set

Don't be shy about asking questions as you go along, we tend to be a helpful lot around here. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, new lads buy the drinks! Two fingers of Aberfeldy 21 for yours truly if you would be so kind.

Cheers!

Lou

Hey, mbarbaric, welcome aboard to the premier WWI flight simulator! I don't know if you ever played Red Baron back in the day, but this is truly the heir apparent to that august enterprise. If you don't have TrackIR or some other head tracking system, that really elevates the experience, assuming you already have a stick and rudder pedals...
In addition to what everyone else has said, you might want to take a look at the Skinning Tutorial to create some custom artwork for your mount, it contains the collected wisdom of talented people like Louvert, Olham, Nietzsche, Cavaliere57 and others. Ask lots of questions and have fun!

The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

Welcome, please just run the sim vanilla first, how will you know that WOFF is stable for you and if you need a mod or not anyway without at least trying it as it is?
