I just had to post. I was told yesterday that my colo/rectal cancer is now in remission. What they thought had spread to my spine is just bone disease. So now I just have to recover from the last surgery and get my strength back. Two years of an up and down battle. Now I have to think about getting back into the job market at age 51.

When I faced death back in 2009 with an ascending aortic aneurysm and the subsequent aortic replacement and valve repair, plus being chilled to an ice cube while my chest was cracked open, I found I viewed life differently after that. I still do. Do something big... something that you've always wanted to do but been afraid to try. For me, that was becoming a novelist. For you--only your heart knows.

Congrats on the awesome news!

I'm happy for both of you (LB4LB and F4UDash4), that is for any bits of good news you're getting with this terrible thing you're both having to deal with.

I feel guilty on these "C" threads because I started a thread back in January about a breast lump that turned out to be benign, but I've never been so worried in my life about something. The waiting for results was excruciating.

Good luck to all of you fighting it and/or in remission.

Truly good news.

Thanks guys. I really do have a different outlook on life. I do want to do something different (did IT support for 25 years). I guess being a fighter pilot or a professional hockey player are out, but I need a change. I will say one thing, the power of family and friends is the best medicine in the world.

Good to hear that even if I don't know you!
there seems to have been a lot of the opposite on here recently, perhaps the core posters here are getting old!

LOL You think? I would venture that the average age of the frequent poster on SimHQ is in the mid to late 40's.

Awesome news - best wishes that it will never come back. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies and take a couple of tumeric capsules each day if your doctor says its ok. Tumeric is a root found commonly in Asia which has strong anti-carcinogenic properties

Tumeric is a known apotosis inducer:
Several mechanisms have been identified in mammalian cells for the induction of apoptosis. ... Inhibitor of cell cycle at G2 phase; apoptosis inducer. ... 2OHOA induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in several cancer cell lines, including glioma, leukemia, breast and colon cancer lines.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15810876
http://www.turmericforhealth.com/turmeric-benefits/how-turmeric-redesigns-cancer-cells-mortality

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003AY...YWOZSN&th=1

Currently I'm sipping a hot tumeric tea reading which i've mixed with green tea. Green tea is also a powerful anti-oxidant. In addition to tumeric and green tea i also take with a meal an Acai or grape seed extract capsule as these are also powerful anti-oxidants.

Eat less meat .... and more fresh fruits and vegetables. Salads made from raw cabbage, kale, etc is excellent and good for the colon and digestion. Keep your sugar consumption to a minimum - sugar in our diets today is a POISON and a leading cause of many illnesses in this country not the least of which is diabetes.

"Tea polyphenols have also been shown to inhibit tumor cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in laboratory and animal studies (1, 13). In other laboratory and animal studies, tea catechins have been shown to inhibit angiogenesis and tumor cell invasiveness (14). In addition, tea polyphenols may protect against damage caused by ultraviolet (UV) B radiation (13, 15), and they may modulate immune system function (16). Furthermore, green teas have been shown to activate detoxification enzymes, such as glutathione S-transferase and quinone reductase, that may help protect against tumor development (16). Although many of the potential beneficial effects of tea have been attributed to the strong antioxidant activity of tea polyphenols, the precise mechanism by which tea might help prevent cancer has not been established (13)."

Thanks Dr. Hag, I will look into that. Right now I have a pretty bland diet. Only a few months since my ostomy bag was removed. My tumor was low in my colon, so I have a long time to go before I can eat normally. Red meat is out completely. I have reduced my sugar intake. Still have my Diet Coke addiction, only one can a day now. The surgeries and radiation did a number on me.
