interesting. will the release of MW5 mean the end of MWO though? seems like a guaranteed mass exodus at that point

PvE, sign me up. I hope that also means co-op and a purchase price rather than constant transactions.

Nice! A PvE offline game is much more suitable for me.

A couple observations about the preview compared to the "old" MW5 "trailer":

1. From the looks of it, it leverages a lot of what was already done and exists for MWO. Hopefully that reduces the likely hood of it becoming vapor ware.

2. One way it's very similar to the old trailer and different from MWO is that the Mech's movement appears to be much slower and very deliberate. The battle with the Raven plays out somewhat slowly and with some strategy involved. The mechs seem to trade blows until one finally wins. I like that much more than the frantic FPS feel that MWO has sometimes.

This has got me all excited about robots again... I coincidentally fired up MWO on Saturday night and really enjoyed the matches. Anyone still online regularly?

I played again some weeks ago, after not having played for nearly a year, if I remeber correctly and after a weekend I got sick of it again. Always HPG or Mining map. God, what wasted potential. If I wasn't a founder and hadn't invested so much money in the beginning, I would never play again and uninstall it. At least, I like it for a couple of rounds every other year or so

I never went back to MWO after the skill tree change. Seemed like too much work...

Didn't see any mention of co-op. Otherwise I like what I'm hearing. I was afraid it would be a little campaign but mostly just a MWO copy. Sounds a lot deeper than I expected.

I understand the "no multiplayer" bit, which is fine, but I hope they at least consider co-op multiplay. Considering they are building it as a "merc" game where you would presumably hire other Mechwarriors to fill in your lance, the opportunity just sticks out to have a human fill that role.

Jumpjets look good. I like the rocket & ballistic effects. Odd that he can play 10 minutes without firing weapon group 2 ( medium laser) ????

Well, I though it looked promising. Although I found the playstyle utilized very frustrating to watch. It seemed frantic and very "ADD".

The guy playing was a terribad, Clydewinder. ;P I thought it looked promising, regardless.

Seemed almost like a bot playing.
I'm still looking forward to the game, that hasn't changed. Would still like to hear about co-op!

During MechCon 2017 in Vancouver, Piranha Games president Russ Bullock took to the stage to announce that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, the return to a singleplayer sim-like MechWarrior, is coming in December of 2018.

MechWarrior hasn't had a proper singleplayer game for over 15 years, but MW5 marks a return to form. When I visited Piranha Games in the summer, Bullock said that this would be "the same kind of action simulator that people have been wanting for 15 years." Ditching the linear campaign of the main MechWarrior games, Mercenaries will feature a more sim-like campaign where players run their own mercenary company and can explore the Inner Sphere and fight for its Great Houses however they like.

MechWarrior 5 will also have Steam Workshop mod support and 4-player co op. Bullock says that, instead of using AI teammates on a mission, you'll be able to recruit a friend to join your lance.

I had a chance to play the latest build of MechWarrior 5 at MechCon yesterday and really enjoyed my time with it. Despite some weak AI, it's chunky combat feels extremely punchy and fun. Bullock even found me today to say he agrees about the demo's weak AI and assure me it was one of the highest priorities for the team.

No, I've never been to a convention of any kind. LOL
Haven't played MWO in a couple of years now, I just couldn't keep up playing once or twice a week and got fed up with it.
Defcon Won in the game though. There is an inactive Raw Kryptonite, but that was borked early on in the beta and I had to create a new profile.

So much potential for a game to play for years!
Get the campaigns, merc group, co-op and wars right and this could go on forever. Weekly MW might make a comeback?
I hope they plan on reeneacting events and continually offering new mechs and tech so you can play eras as you like.

Just watched that last video linked... At 2:00 the map looks just like the ones from MW3!

Honestly, keep the engine from MWO and simply port over the MW: Mercenaries whole cloth and I'll be happy!

I love that that guy is playing with a HOTAS. Hopefully single player will allow for more of a focus on immersion and less of a need to always just get as much DPS as you can.

I'd love to see it in VR too if possible!

I like that the gameplay will be more suited to a full HOTAS too. On MWO, I use a throttle, but a mouse is needed for accuracy. This game should be pretty incredible if there is enough to play in co-op.
