You would think so but those show genres still draw a lot of viewers.

That show made me laugh so hard it hurt. 'University Challenge' was the best episode.

"The Young Ones" was hysterical.

However, "The Taming of the Shrew" episode of Moonlighting was TV gold. My HS english teacher made us watch it, too.

My HS English teacher made us watch Mel Gibson's Hamlet.

It was better than reading it or watching one of the older films, certainly. Still, I find the actual story tedious.

If it wasn't Shakespeare, it would be considered a lousy story.

+1 Jedi

I had a really hard time getting into Shakespeare when I first started reading his stuff in high school. All I kept telling myself was "why does he have to say everything in such a complex manner?" It was also frustrating having to continuously refer to the appendix because I didn't know the meaning of about every 6th or 7th word that I read.

I get the amount of effort put into the words used. There was artistry in the writing, and it came from a time when that was valued.

Yet the plot is ridiculous and implausible.

A king is murdered by an ambitious brother. So his ghost comes back to tell his son to investigate it which leads to not only the death of his brother, but his former wife, his son, and numerous other people who were all blameless in the original murder scheme? Well, I'm dead, might as well make sure all the people who still live join me!

That king DESERVED to be murdered by his brother, even in death he's a douche.

King Lear and Macbeth are much better stories than Hamlet but I'm biased because I think "Ran" and "Throne of Blood" are such incredibly good adaptations of those stories. smile

Every "very special episode" of any given sitcom in the '80's was comedy gold.

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.

I clearly remember Tom Hanks on Family Ties as Michael J Fox's alcoholic uncle.

He chugged a bottle of vanilla extract for the alcohol in it. Then they had some contrived situation where Fox grabs him for some reason and Hanks shoves him and he falls. That was about as far as they'd go back then.

I remember that, first time to see Hanks do some kind of dramatic scene.
The APK gets hooked on amphetamines episode wasn't bad either.
Serious sitcom episodes can be very poignant.

Aw now, BJ and the Bear even got a spinoff: The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo with Claude Akins reprising his role.

I was at the right age for those shows when they aired and really liked them. Tried watching them on YouTube a few years back and found they weren't as "great" as I remembered.

The vast majority of those popular 80's shows have not aged well. The two main problems IMHO is the campy overacting and the poorly choreographed action scenes that give off a definite B movie vibe.

I tried Airwolf, it wasn't the same either. Season 1 at least had attitude, but some really cheesy Glen Larson scenes too.
Still, he and Stephen Cannell owned the 80's on tv.

Looking at IMDB, looks like someone's trying to bring back Knight Rider YET AGAIN. What's that, 4 attempts?

Something like that. They should just cast The Rock in the lead role. If it still fails then the Knight Rider property needs to be put to rest permanently.
