Looks so, they can do it. Maybe he is, rather was, a novice, but they will try to avoid aircraft parts.

That panic fire will get you every time. Get a scare noob behind a machine gun in a wooden plane and things can go downhill quickly. Nice footage of it, though!

Also, great shooting on your part, sir. You drew smoke from quite a distance. Well done on the lead! salute

Well, it's certain YOU didn't, and he was shooting your way... Nice catch! Too bad it was his last pull of the trigger.

In a slightly more competent way, there is the great story of the American P51 pilot who shot down a C-47 pilot - in the plane was a nurse he was dating! Good story here (and all ends well) for those who've never seen it!

Did the German shoot off his own wing? I'd give you a solid 'maybe' on that one. You were pumping rounds into him at close range from 0:45 to 0:49. Four seconds. You well may have softened up that main spar. And it may have cracked from stress. Or, the gunner may have finished your work for you.

Either way, that was bold of you to move in so close to a two-seater. It can be done, but it is rarely recommended.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.
