Beach has a great life story to tell his kids no doubt!
WRT RPS
It's is pretty much the only gaming site I visit. They seem to expect more from the games they review compared to current "conventions", with no love of "game logic", stereotypes or the gratuitous while greatly appreciating the importance of internal consistency and underlying themes. I also refuse to consider any game critic a journalist, so it just boils down to "do these people appreciate games the same way I do?" and if yes, I use them to filter the wheat from the chaff for me. I also like the humor, it reminds me of a local, now defunct gaming magazine I use to read.
Yeah, they lean left, I don't agree with all their stances nor do I believe too fervently in the stuff I do agree on but it hardly gets in the way of the games writing, IMO.
Tim Stone, who runs the Flare Path column on RPS is also excellent.

Great article! I really like RPS's articles especially Tim Stone's Flare Path column which is an awesome sim and wargame column. That site is UK based and leans left just like SHQ leans right... but that doesn't really get in the way of the good articles unless you get into politics talk in the comments or forum which I don't... Chris' mudspike.com is awesome too no politics talk there at all, just good natured sim talk with a great bunch of guys. Also great articles there too.

What I find so amusing is people on the left think those on the right are so unaccepting and closed-minded, but they're not, while those on the right think those on the left are so unaccepting and closed-minded, but they're not. NEWS FLASH--both sides are. I miss the old days when SHQ had tons of Euro members and was firmly in the center, in the days where liberal and conservative weren't used as 4 letter words and all came here for their love of simming. I wonder just how many frequent posters here and in PWEC actually still sim? The Jedi Master

Quite a few don't and many among that group don't game anymore at all. I've seen posts from several members to that effect over the past few years.

+1 Jedi, it's all a matter of perspective and a very tribal thing...
To be honest I think mixing politics with gaming or other hobbies is a recipe for unnecessary divisiveness... like discussing abortion at a party.

Unless it's an abortion party, of course. However, people now seem to think it's something that needs to be discussed constantly, and that if people don't feel exactly the way they do it's an affront to them. They feel like they need to be surrounded only by like-minded people and lash out at those who disagree. Then they lash out over really stupid things most of the time as well. It's not worth it, it doesn't change anyone's minds any more than you can argue someone into being a different race, so why even do it? The Jedi Master

Thanks for the heads up about Mudspike.com. I had not known about them. I've already found some great info including some about Thrustmaster's new TFlight4 HOTAS which I'd never knew about.

You are welcome. Yep, Mudspike is a good site.

I still fly a mission almost every day, with the IL2/FB/46' flight sim package, if I get time. I have it modded with CUP, it's great. I also play the SH4 submarine sim once in a while. I'm thinking of reinstalling COD, or MOH again this winter. But I fear the graphics will disappoint me. What I try to stay away from, is the politics. But it's hard, when you see something in print, that seems so.....'different' from what you believe, or know is true. So I just try not to read them. Being responsible here, I sometimes can't avoid that. But I've never been to any other website. I don't go looking for trouble. SimHqs is plenty of on line 'entertainment' for me......my 'real life' takes up most of my time. Just 'staying alive' up here, is hard enough...lol.....Mr. bear has not gone to sleep yet. Found his prints in the snow yesterday on our daily walk. About 100 yds from the house. Tell him your 'political position', see how far it gets you.

I've been improving my understanding of the mechanics of Hearts of Iron 3 and am getting ready to do an AAR.

I think it would be best if we left this alone now and just continue with the article on/by Beach. It is good to see him getting some recognition and good press.
So, let's celebrate Beach !

How ironic, I got banned here for have liberal views....go figure. No you didn't. You misrepresent why you received a short term suspension is just one of the sub-forums.
As I asked, can we not get sidetracked and focus on the article about Beach ?

PM me if you'd like to explain what rule I broke and how my posts differed from any of the other posts in that pit of vipers, LOL. And yes, Beach is a righteous dude and I apologize for dirtying up his thread.

One more insulting remark, and your apology will be the last post you ever make on this forum. I apologize to the members for continuing your dirt in this thread, but I believe a public warning is necessary here. You don't publicly insult the moderators, in 'any' forum, nobody does. If you have a legitimate complaint, you PM, OldGrognard, who is in charge of the PWEC, or PM ME. We will straighten it out, properly. Sad, to ruin an entire thread, then 'apologize', in the same post. I'll leave this thread open, but it's not a 'bash the forums' thread. Any forums, or any members. Please be civil, or don't post.
