And now lack of funds hence having to focus on payware before core engine even though the dependencies are the wrong way around and will probably lead to more funds needed for the bugs/patches when 2.5 creates some new problems.

Actually I doubt that they ever had enough funds to just work on the core engine for years. The very frequent sales a few years ago looked quite desperate to me back then (plus things like the Black Shark 2 re-release).

Yeeah indeed with BS2 , why charge for something once, when you can charge for it twice

I don't think their sales back then were as frequent as they are now. IIRC, they had spring/summer/etc sales... now it's every weekend and every release of something, they have a "sale."

If so, then how long do you think before they call it quits?

Well, I really hope they don't go belly up. I hope they fix stuff and straighten up the boat.
The newsletter where they announced the delay of the F-18 was pretty sad tbh. Just personal interpretation, but to me it had "desperation" written all over the place.
If their PR wasn't as totally myopic as it is, they would also get much more empathy and help from the community.

Btw, I opened steam yesterday and on the Arma 3 News section it basically said "we are now in content lockdown and not developing anything new until we have completely cleaned and fixed all the small bugs in the core engine".

So, it seems that some companies are doing it. Sure BI has probably more money than ED...

Yeah, I would suspect that the market for tactical shooters is way bigger than combat flight simulation. I can easily see a progression from Call of Duty or Counterstrike looking for something less "level-uppy" and more hardcore and then finding out about ARMA and joining the PC Master Race (TM) biggrin

The current "sales" are only in name. They allow you to use bonus points beyond "normal" limits or whatever. The old sales were actually good.

I remember the MiG-15 going for $15. Then they changed their sale structure and it has not been under $25 since that I can recall, usually $30+.
Part of me wishes I'd bought it then when it was cheap, but then I reflect on how little I've done with the F-86 and I stop wishing. It also makes the odds of me buying it at $30+ even lower than when it was under $20.

I never had much interest in the MiG15 myself until I picked it up from another SimHQ member at a good price. It has turned out to be one of my favorite modules. Simple enough systems, quirky handling and the pit is almost claustrophobic in VR.

I agree with you for the most part.
They do have some pretty good sales once in while though.
Not the huge discounts that they used to have but this one is actually pretty good.
it goes until the 28th and it's close to half off on the listed bundles.
They also have a pretty good non bonus sale close to the end of December.

Yep, that was in the late 90's

Falcon 4 was crashing almost every MP session and Flanker had an "internal error"
every mission flown.

I don't think I've ever had a program that didn't have some glitches.

I was just trying to pass on some information to anyone interested. The other comments were not helpful in my opinion.

I think that ED's business practices suck. I posted a message a few weeks ago about how I was completely fed up with their forum practices. I'm still very happy with their end product though. I think you can be against how they operate as a business and still find a level of satisfaction with their products like any company.

The A-10C, which I've logged thousands of hours in, is a work of art. DCS World never crashes on me. I have lots of other modules and have very few complaints regarding their products. DCS World, however, has some serious flaws right now but it's the world core and not the modules mainly. They are working on fixing the problems and I expect that most of them will be handled by the time that 2.5 is released. Right now both 1.5 and 2.0 seem pretty stable except for some people. That's not a broken program.

People also forget that DCS World 1 had a lot of problems when it first came out. It ran great after they fixed the problems and has been mostly flawless up till the release of 1.5. You also need to remember that this is a completely different animal now. You're talking about running many different aircraft modules in the same environment, unlike another sim that is basically using the same cockpit avionics with different skins. This is a huge leap for any company and there are certain to be problems.

Again though, I can disagree with their business practices and how some are treated on the forum and still find a high degree of satisfaction with the sim itself. Unlike my entire experience with Falcon 4.0 prior to BMS attempts to fix it. We could never get off the ground without half of our group exploding. If you did get airborne, you would very likely get disconnected after 20 minutes. You were lucky to get it running out of the box without a lot of struggling. I've had almost every flight simulator released except for MS products and DCS World is by far one of the best. And that's not a lame "Fanboi" comment, it's from many years of experience with combat sims.

But are they? According to the last newsletter. The priorities are in the following order........

1. Spitfire / Normandy Map
2. NTTR
3. Caucasus conversion / 2.5

They have got it back to front imo, but the Spitfire/Normandy is the only one that will really generate funds out of that lot......even so, ED will probably lose more money by having to provide resources to fix additional problems that appear in any modules/terrain that 2.5 invokes before it is complete. Get the core stable first.

No, they won't. 2.5 is porting the Caucasus into T4. All new terrains are already in T4.

Correct, and NTTR is done.
They've already said that this last update was it except for some minor stuff.
I suspect that they will release the Normandy map into 2.0 since it can handle multiple maps.
It wouldn't be good to release a whole new DCSW for just Normandy.
Then when they finish the Caucuses it will be all rolled into 2.5.
