Dude, that's a pretty good lifetime for a deck.

Next time use some of that water proofing sealant.

A sad business for you Lipfert.
I'm sat here looking at 3 boxes containing the ashes of well-loved dogs. Not that we are bad owners, they were all rescues with health and age issues.
Getting a second Golden Lab next week, has to be re-homed due to a tragic bereavement. As she came from a loving home, we hope she will be good therapy for our current Lab, who had a terrible existence as a breed #%&*$# in a puppy farm.

Dogs are odd animals, they get so close to those of us who allow it.

Each relationship is unique.
Some get so dangerously close, it can be so painful to lose them.

Find another one soon, good humans are much more difficult to find.
Lots of good dogs out there, looking.......
God bless the good humans out there, who care for them.

I am on rescues #4 and #5. They really do act like they have discovered a human worth their affection.

Sorry for your loss Lipfert, but that is part of life, as hard as it is to accept. I had to learn that lesson as a kid when my dachshund ran under a car that was driven by a neighbor, it was a long time before I forgave him, even though I knew the dog was at fault.

The unsealed part we just replaced this summer, repairs are done but I need time to get the sealing done. As you can see it's alot of deck.

My condolences. That's a beautiful dog.

Our two Jack Russells, Ralphie (age 10) and Suzie (age 9) are our first dogs (both rescues) and we couldn't love them more. Ralphie has had liver problems since we got him (prescription food/treats/have to pay close attention to his weight) and he's already outlived his early predicted lifespan. He was abused before we got him as a 1 year old, including alcohol just for kicks. He still has bad days but most days are good ones. We'll keep him kicking as long as we can (EDIT: as long as he's not suffering).

Man, I hate to think about that day. darkcloud

Suzie is in many of my pics, always follows me around (at my feet as I post). Ralphie prefers to chill and is more of a momma's boy.

Heck, I've even become partially attached to our cat Smokie (age 8), inherited when my mother-in-law passed. I'm more of a dog person, though.

Sorry to hear....went through the same myself 6 months ago with one of my dogs that reached 17 years. Have some solace knowing you had 14 great happy years, many dogs don't get that. A great life......and so much truth in 'mans best friend'.

In the last few weeks we have also just got another puppy, in no way intended as a replacement but we're happy and ready to establish a new friendship with the additional family member.

Dog people are all suckers. We can't resist. My 9yo is a recent, accidental, addition to the home. Congrats on the new member of the household.

Surprisingly relevant, my daughters' fish died this weekend and they were devastated. "Swimmy" lived well over 3 years, long for a betta, and they were very attached to his strong, curious personality. They even held a little funeral for him in the yard. She wrote "I'm sorry you're gone, Swimmy, we'll miss you" on the box.

The feeling I had while I watched them suffering, powerless to help them, couldn't have been worse if it had been my pet.

We did go out and find a new betta for them to sit with and watch, Scarlett, but knowing that over a year later they'll still lament the loss of our old turtle I know Swimmy will be long remembered as well.

Exactly! Don’t make the mistake we did and wait for two years to get another dog! There’s a pupper or doggo out there waiting for you! smile runningdog

Adopting another dog isn’t replacing the one you lost. It’s more a constant reminder of them.
