I have just done the maverick training mission. I have no problem hitting all previous targets, however, with the last target: 2 tu-22s sitting on the south side of the runway, I find it very hard to see them with FLIR.
I have done this mission again and again, finally I find them. They are indeed on the south side of the runway, however, the FLIR image of these 2 tu-22s is very unclear. the planes looks somewhat transparent and blinking ??
I'm guessing a bug. I haven't seen targets blink like that. I did have a problem with a mission to destroy a few airliners parked at an airport. If I recall, I could locate two of the three targets on FLIR but I could never see the last target. Eventually I used the mission editor to find out it's location. Then I flew the mission again but at very low altitude so I could acquire the target visually. So I knew that the target really existed and where it was, but still it didn't show up on my FLIR.
now I know if I have another mission to destroy parked aircrafts, if I can not find them with FLIR, I should use the mission editor to find out its location.
I replayed that mission last night. It's called Deny Flight and is part of the Hornets Over Kuwait mission set. This time I was able to locate all of the aircraft on the ground. Turned out there were four, not three as I initially recalled. So long story short, you should probably not put much stock in anything I've said. LOL. I still think you're experiencing some kind of bug, maybe graphics driver related.

P.S. Another cheat that could help is pressing Alt-A to turn aircraft labels on.
Out of curiosity, I have tried playing the same maverick training mission on my office system. It is a cheap msi J1800i with built in cpu and vga card. However, the result is still the same, the tu-22 is still transparent and blinking. So I am pretty sure it is not caused by nvidia driver.
I think the Hornets Over Kuwait missions are part of the TSH mod. When I use world swapper to play the Persian Gulf theatre, the missions are their under single missions. I'll give the Maverick training mission a try this weekend.
Sounds like you can get it to happen repeatably. What happens if you look at it directly in game? It's been a long time but I thought there was a reverse target view or the like. Perhaps it was a debug thing but I seem to remember people found all those keys a long time ago so there should be some way to pause the game and get a close look at it. At first I was wondering if its height could have been set incorrectly so that it was having sorting issues with the ground but I think I'm just remember some terrain issues in some other game where you'd get weird sorting issues if things were at the same level.
I seem to recall seeing this from the beginning. In the Maverick Training Mission, I struggled to try to find a use for the Force Correlate mode of the G Model and settled on aiming for a spot between parked vehicles/aircraft. Pretty sure I saw this flickering way back when on the original F/A-18 machine (Win98/Pentium 3-550/Voodoo 5).
Try Black Hot mode and see if it gets better. I seem to recall that helped.

Hi, It has been awhile, and it never really bothered me, but I think that the FLIR had trouble mainly with aircraft and vehicles on the ground, ESPECIALLY on runways where the contrast was low. I don't recall seeing it as much with ships, structures or even vehicles on roads.
In fact, it was only the mention of the Maverick Training Mission that jogged my memory about trying to get the Force Correlate to work in that particular situation.
