well, theres the training tracks... also, you could declassify the missions and take a peek under the hood so to say. this would give you the same amount of information as someone talking you through it

I beat it by taking off and turning away from the incoming enemy and climbing. There are a cub SAMs at your airbase and when the bad guys get a little closer, you'll get some help from them. There are too many aircraft for you to take on alone (at least for me), it also allows the MiG's taking off at the same time as you to get engaged as well.
