I was hoping it would include the lighting effects that made its way into Fallout 4. That should help make the forests feel richer and immersive. I'd rather have Oblivion though updated with the latest engine build but this is nice.
That being said, for me Skyrim, with regards to how much they updated the engine from Oblivion, was good especially for the time five years ago. However, save for the lightning and some better animation work and tighter controls, I don't feel that the jump between Skyrim and FO4 was all that good. Because of this, I don't believe that the next Elder Scrolls game nor the fans will be properly served unless they profoundly rewrite and upgrade their game engine or even more preferably, move on to a new engine. A simply updated version of the FO4 engine version for the new Elder Scrolls IS NOT going to be good enough in my opinion.
At this stage in the game(though its good for what it was)the engine is getting tired and as a customer I'm getting tired of it at this point. I would still enjoy a game using this engine as long as it wasn't made by Bethesea and as long as it waz not of the same theme(I still think its good for some things)but please, not another ES game with that engine. We need new and we need fresh for the future of Elder Scrolls.

I'm thankful that I'll get to play the new prettier game, but I seriously don't notice the difference between graphics that much. Sure F4 was a little prettied up but the gameplay is what comes through for me.

I spent over 300 hours in it over the years and never beat the main quest. I got close but got so burned out mostly due to getting sucked into the modding grind. I hope not to be tempted this time by mods save for if they update the SkyUI(someone slap Coot's hand he's reaching for the Nexus).
I hope it just "feels" fuller and new enough to get into again and it will be my intentions to go straight through and concentrate on the main quest and leveling up my character and honing several skills instead of getting side tracked by a thousand side quests. Yeah, there's the issue of mods. There are a few I get attached to that add to the game rather than graphics. Seems like I read around here(?) that nexus isn't the preferred method for autoinstalling mods now. This is installed separate from the regular game/SKSE install. I don't suppose it has built in mod support?

The only mod I ever used for Skyrim was the high res textures mod. That, one that fixed a texture bug for me, and one I threw together that made night-eye silent. Who the hell hears SQURAAWWWRRRRRR magic noises every time their eyes adjust to the dark?

Kryp, the Special Edition on consoles supports mods natively. So maybe they did something there... It uses the same Bethesda.net repository for mods as Fallout 4. Basically this is Skyrim ported to Fallout 4's updated engine. But you can use Nexus mods (NMM has been updated already to detect the Special Edition). On XBOX One, limit for mods is 5GB, and they can use the same mods as PC. On PS4 they limited mods to 1GB, and no external resources will be permitted on their mods (you can only use things that already exist in the game). SKSE and such will not be allowed. Was Skyrim ever released on GOG? I think it is a Stemware title, so it requires Steam.

Ah, I wish they would get this version onto GOG. That would be cool. I have a few climate and tool/weapon mods I want to bring in. I wish Civil War would work, but I'm not risking going down that road again.

lol RK that's exactly my trouble too. Reading your post already triggered in my mind "Well at the very least I need realistic force mod, climates of Tamriel...." Its so easy for me to get sucked into that because there are a few mods that are my must haves like the improved physics and weather and such.
I've always installed my mods manually for Skyrim. For awhile I tried the NMM method for FO4 and it worked pretty well but there's a bit of setup to have to do with that one. I only ever tried Steam Workshop on a few mods but it always seemed weird and made me wonder if it actually even worked. Maybe its gotten better?

Runs great. Needs modding to look good again. There's definitively stuff changed. A lot more vegetation. Seems the old ini commands might not be working. I changed the FOV to the same as my modded install of the original. Same location: Original modded: Special Edition vanilla: Mountains seem a lot bigger, or maybe FOV did not take.
