By all accounts (not only on Steam forums, but even from "official" gaming mags), 2K also managed to release a crappy PC port...Mafia 3.

Washy, popping-up textures, 30 fps lock (which allegedly will be removed in an upcoming patch "this weekend"; so why put it in there in the first place?!), lots of crashes/does not even run...

Good thing I never, ever pre-order anything. Even established "brand names" are no longer a guarantee these days.

I'll probably wait for a Steam sale then. reading

Lemme see.

I've had one crash so far, in 10 hours of playing.

I'm enjoying the game so far - one familiar character pops up, and the music is tremendous.

FPS being locked to 30 I don't care about, the game runs smoothly.

Yeah, it's a rough release.

30 frame rates is a slide show, I wouldn't call that smooth. I get a headache at 30. I try to get 60, but okay with drops to 45 if it can't be avoided in SP games. For an online shooter like BF4, 60 frames is the bare minimum. When I upgraded to my GTX 970 my frame rates jumped to around 90-110 depending on the area. With it, my score also jumped. There is no going back for me. But each to their own.

I got it but haven't gotten to put any real time into it yet. My only problem so far is that the controller buttons aren't labeled in the menu, which is pretty odd.
50 GB, it's got a lot of content. I got the (6!) disc version, but still activated for steam, fortunately.

I agree with this, can't tolerate below 60fps.

Locking a PC port at 30fps is an indicator they don't care about PC gamers.

Just another reason not to preorder games.

I've actually focused on the gameplay, ie playing the game and not get hung up about details.

I long ago stopped following the FPS-kiddies, led by the Conterstrike-junkies who needed 25782350802358305835080 fps to be LEET and awesome.

I've survived playing flight-sims with 10 fps, and I recall the first Far Cry with like 15 fps. I don't care what the fps is as long as I get an enjoyable experience. Locked to 30 is smooth to my aging eyes in a story-based game, and not a twitch-PVP game. (aka Battleield and CS which I haven't bothered playing for a decade+).

FPS depends on what your used to. If your used to 60fps constantly, you DO notice 30fps being a lot slower. But, if your used to 30fps, then its perfectly fine. smile

30FPS is good for me too. I'm already happy when I can run ArmA3 above 25!

Don't really understand this FPS race...

Well, that's one way of being defensive over your low framerate.

Kinda makes you wish Rockstar would have made this game instead.

There's the problem. pre-order is what killed quality in gaming. End of story.

Before pre-orders and alpha access, you better delivered a good game or people wouldn't buy it. Nowadays, half your target audience already bought your game before release. At worst, bad critics will only cut your profit by a 20-30%, and probably not even that.

I preorder games I know I'll want at release, I like the discount. It I change my mind before release, nothing prevents me from cancelling.
30 fps isn't ideal, but if it's steady it's fine. It's when fps is highly inconsistent with big drops that it becomes a problem for me. Fortunately I bought on PC so patches don't have to go through the long drawn out expensive process they get stuck with on console. That kills of a lot of needed patches on console games.
If anyone wants a SimHQ'er review of the game, I'll put one up on steam this week after putting some time into the game. My build is fairly average these days, so you'll get a decent idea of how it really runs. Most of my favorite games average a 6 on the "pro" review sites, so I don't put much stock in those.

IMO, what killed quality in games in general are achievements, ranks and unlocking in game items. If a game is good enough on its own, it doesn't need to appeal to players' addictive side and one upmanship by unlocking game items and rank. I'm looking at games like COD in particular.

I don't put much stock in people that go out trying to break games instead of playing them. It's still just programming and will never be perfect.
If I find out that's not the issue and the game is actually screwed up, I'll certainly say so.

It's not like fps are an absolute. If you're playing an FPS shooter like BF, you want it high. If you're playing CoH or a Total War game, it doesn't need to be much above stuttering to actually work.

A game like this where there is shooting but it's not a shooter doesn't need 60fps. You're not bunny hopping around spawn campers, you're carrying out mob missions. It may look nicer with it higher, but it's not unplayable if it's 30.

I played Crysis when it came out with fps in the mid-20s and I enjoyed and finished the game without too much fuss. I played it again a few years ago with fps around 60 and I enjoyed the game even more, but it was still the same.
